I'm up to 44 orders for 2012. I'm on track to break a hundred orders this year. I'm gonna use the free shipping more so I can rack up free MP3 money.

It is $79/year but remember you can also add 'family members' on there. You can add up to 4 people I believe so technically you can split with you 'family members'. $79/year alone is worth it but if you're splitting it, it's a no brainer.

Love my Prime. Free second day is perfect, $4 overnight if I need it is amazing. My wife gets to read a free book every month. I watch a free video every now and then when the mood strikes.

Well worth the $79/year, especially since I order a lot from Amazon.

Also love the Prime. Free 2 day shipping means that I'm buying a lot of stuff off amazon rather than hoof it to the store. However, you do have to watch their prices as some items are more expensive on Amazon than in the store. However their prices are always fluctuating according to some algorithm based on demand. For example, I buy a certain type of dog food. Sometimes amazon beats out the store (plus tax) by a few bucks, and sometimes the store wins by a few bucks.

However, nothing beats the convenience of buying something without leaving your house and having it show up at your door in 2 days (or next day for an extra $4)!

Prime is nice, but their Amazon Video interface is shit compared to Netflix. Still it's a nice added value.

Anyone know if you can download the free movies to a Kindle Fire to watch on a plane?

@OP - considering that the monthly cost would probably be less than the cost 2-day shipping for one order, it's not surprising that they don't have a monthly option. It's a shipping service with a video service tacked on, not the other way around.

Can't you hook up with others and all buy a Prime membership together and it still costs $79? I don't know if they still do that.

They have never done that for people who aren't members of the same household/family.

Yes and no. I'm on my friend's prime account. I get free shipping and stuff, but I *don't* get Amazon Prime Video. I would have to pay for my own account for that.

I <3 prime, but it's only worth it if you're can take advantage of the upgrade to 2 day shipping (which I do, constantly). Video library and prime kindle lending are just bonuses and the selection can't compete with netflix/hulu yet. Not complaining, it's extra icing on an already yummy cake to me.

I think its worth the $80, and the only thing I use it for is free 2 day shipping.
Ya, I just had a free 30 day trial for buying a Kindle and I didn't watch any movies or borrow any books. I don't see myself renewing it as I can usually get free shipping and I am not in a hurry to get my items.

Watch out, cause you get automatically renewed if you dont cancel it. I think I was originally on a 6 month trial and never actively renewed, but here I am 3 years later.

I pretty much buy all physical goods via Amazon, as free shipping and no tax is hard to beat. Kinda funny, as once you get used to free 2 day shipping, one day for $4 isnt a stretch. I guess thats how they get ya, but $4 for one day pays for itself fairly quickly.

Prime is less about free shipping and more about the speed - If you use Prime long enough you really start to resent the other places you shop that DON'T offer the two-day. Sure it's free, but the beauty is the fact that it eliminates shopping at local stores in all but the most extreme emergencies. Most things can wait two days, far fewer can wait a week.

and when i don't need it guaranteed 2 day, i choose the slow option and get $1 credit in the MP3 store
I did this on my last batch of orders. Amazon comes out ahead because I use the credit towards albums.

I bought a PS3 Move set (Eye, Motion Controller, Navigation Controller) from the recent Lightning Deal. I didn't worry about shipping with Prime, but I would have had to split up my existing cart to get each piece up to $25 for Super Saver Shipping.

I'm on year one of the Prime experiment. I will not be renewing. I just don't spend enough money at Amazon. Most of my purchases would've qualified for the free shipping. Small $ purchases that would benefit from Prime are usually more expensive than local B&M stores. I guess Amazon has to make up on the shipping cost.

Yeah, I have Amazon Prime and it's painful to shop anywhere else. Newegg's shipping is an example. Something like $21 for two day? But, what can you do? Online retailers put mom and pop out of business, now the mega-online retailers who can ship 2-day for free will put the smaller guys out of business. I do still like Newegg though. Even though it's pricier at times, they've treated me very well so I still buy from there unless the difference is dramatic.
