Amazon shipping cost, free is not actually free?

So I'm ordering a bunch of stuff from Amazon, naturally when I make an online order at any store I like to order lot of stuff together to save on shipping. But with Amazon it looks like free shipping only counts for items that come from Amazon, and naturally, most things don't, they come through 3rd parties. So I'm guessing I have to pay shipping for each individual item? Problem is, I don't see how much an item cost for shipping, it just tells me the grand total at the end. I don't want to buy a $3 adapter if the shipping for that one item is like 10 bucks. How do I know how much it actually costs without having to remove and readd each item individually? Even doing that does not seem to change the shipping cost, so is it a flat rate for all non amazon items in my list?

select the prime or free shipping icon on the left side. That will filter out all the non-free shipping vendors. Amazon allows 3rd party to sell in their marketplace so each vendor will charge their own shipping rate. If you select only amazon prime or free shipping item, it will make your life a lot easier.

I see those options, but that's only at check out, and it does not tell me the cost for each item, just the grand total.

Is there a way to filter non Amazon items when I'm searching?

the prime/non prime option should be in search, not checkout (purple arrow)

Those options are completely different for me, but I did find one to refine by super saver shipping, so that works. Have to actually do a search before the options show up.

Only buy stuff shipped from Amazon... that cuts down the selection, but it makes it so much easier for me.

you need to filter it by prime items only. that will show you items that are sold by amazon/fulfilled by amazon. that means they ship out from an amazon distribution center.

you can also filter by free shipping but those can be items that are merchant fulfilled. that means they ship them from their own warehouse/house/fulfillment center. shipping is not going to be guaranteed within two days either.

[edit] just read your comment. yeah i logged into an anonymous session and the only option i see is free shipping. basically you need to filter for free shipping and select only the sellers that are either amazon or in the delivery column it will say fullfillment by amazon.

Order done, It seems you just have to watch on the right what shipping is ahead of time. Would be nice if at the check out they would show the shipping for each distributor though, but I fixed that by sorting free shipping only.

I'd have to look into prime but you have to pay for that right? I don't really order stuff often enough to justify that.

Prime is available here, but it's only worth it if you're shopping there on a regular basis. We don't get Instant Video or the lending library, because reasons. Still costs the same though.

As dave_the_nerd notes, the shipping charge is listed for each seller of the item. Why is doing some math so difficult: adding up the item price and the shipping charge?

I found this out during my free trial. Along with that, and the fact that instant video blows, I decided not to continue. I don't need to be buying random crap just to take advantage of the $99 fee I'd be paying them too. The 2-day shipping was tres awesome though. Took advantage for Christmas.

I bet the shipping costs in Canada are higher for Amazon though. Prime works well in the US because they have so many warehouses within one day shipping of most of the country. They can ship stuff to be here in two days and just send it via regular UPS.

Yeah most things take weeks, I've had stuff take months. But I've had the oddball thing take like 2 days. Seems to really depend.

I actually have stuff on the way that I totally forgot I ordered. I was thinking how I needed it and then remembered I did order it. :awe:

Mother Fucking THIS

...

I laughed. It really is deserving of the exclamatory MF.

I ordered a case of mac and cheese once. Toilet paper too. All sorts of engine and electronic parts. Basically, if I don't need it today, I use Amazon whenever I can.
The health risks balance out. On one hand, more time is spent butt-in-chair, sedentary, blood clots, all that. On the other hand, stress is decreased by not having to deal with traffic, waiting in lines, going to a store only to find they don't have it in stock, etc. And that's all magnified by 100 for Christmas shopping.

Far from it.

Common items like food, toiletries and cleaning supplies are almost always cheaper locally, with better selection and frequent specials. I've checked out Amazon Prime Pantry and it's a joke.

That is, unless you want to spend a lot more money for the thrill of having Cheerios delivered to your front door by UPS. Or maybe if you're bedridden or you spend all your time fapping and playing video games, then I imagine it's a godsend never having to shower and leave the house. But as a semi-functional human being, I can still hop in the car and buy pretty much anything I need for day-to-day living and be back home in 30 minutes.

I'll give up Prime when you pry my free second day shipping from my cold dead hand

Granted that Amazon isn't perfect, but for my family it offers a good value for what's charged. Netflix absolutely sucks. It was never fantastic, but once upon a time there was a lot of variety. Now it really really sucks and over time there's been less worth watching. Amazon on the other hand seems to be expanding and as I like to watch old movies Prime offers stuff Netflix does not. There's a series "wallander" which I watched long ago -the english version- and Netflix offers one season. Amazon all three. Lots of films from the B&W era as well. I'm wondering why I pay Netflix at all these days.
