Free prime shipping is the only thing useful to me. It's nice to be able to order a book and not have to worry about the $35 minimum spending requirement and get it in 2-3 days. I just hope my sister renews again so I can keep piggybacking off the old grandfathered account. I pay for $120/yr for Costco executive membership. There's no way I would pay another $120/yr for Amazon Prime. Costco is far more useful to me and if I had to choose which one to pay and keep, it would be Costco.

True. In our HH, I maintain the Costco Exec membership, and my wife maintains the Amz Prime account. This way we have both, but if push comes to shove, we'd dump Amazon Prime and keep Costco. I see far more value in Costco than Amz. We don't use *any* of the bundled services included with Prime, we just want 2 day shipping and no mins, but at some point, there's a tipping point with Amazon. In 4 more years, they might start charging $200/year. I'm honestly surprised that they don't charge an annual fee for their Chase Amazon Visa card because even as a non-paying Prime member, you still get 3% back on all purchases. 5% if you are Prime, still no annual fee?

Cabin Air Filter. On Amazon. $15. Free shipping with Prime or order over $25

Same brand, same cabin air filter. Rockauto.com. $11 + $4 shipping.

Moral of the story, Amazon items have shipping prices built into them. You are not getting free shipping.

I think it I was charged $109 when it renewed this year. I don't think I will keep prime once it goes to $120.

Half the time I order something and they send it out via their amazon delivery drivers and they can never find my apartment. I've also had a few times where it will say order now and get it tomorrow or get it same day and it's a 50% chance I get it when it says I will.

I've used Amazon video a few times but I mainly watch on Netflix and their music service isn't as good either. 2 day shipping is nice and I will say since I've had it I've ordered a lot of crap I should not have.

You all are doing it wrong.

I make sure I buy a lot of $5 to $15 items as well but separately so they can't ship then together.

This saves you a ton of money on shipping.

If you pay $500 a year for ultra-secret-SuperPrime then they jack up the shipping prices to 10 times normal and then give you that for free so that you can save even more money.

I like their new shipping plan leave package out near gate in rainstorm. I find it a day later, covered with bugs and box falls apart.

I live in an apartment complex that looks like they are condos. My neighbor found my packages on the grass in the front yard near their entrances.

Well at least it looks like he stomped on it a bit as well to make sure the bugs had a way into the box.

I also bought an 80 lb mini fridge with free 2 day shipping that was $50 less than Costco.

That's not amazons fault, it's the delivery guy. My fed ex guy covers them with plastic, and even leaves my dog a dog treat.

The delivery drivers are overworked and probably underpaid. Many times I'll meet one out front to get a package and they always complain how they don't have the time to make all the delivery quotas, looking all desheveled too.

Yea well not my problem. Most ot the time I get a knock on the door or a picture of the package on my step in my email. Its amazon's problem when I purchase the item through them and the carrier they hired to deliver my package to my doorstep is practically on the sidewalk 40 feet away. It would of taken 20 seconds for the carrier to walk that.

Problem is they're not trained/don't have experience. My dad is close to his 30 year pension with USPS right now with about 10 years of mail delivery back in the early 90s. He's doing Amazon Delivery on the side to keep busy and some extra spending money. He tells me that there's a method on how to tackle different neighborhoods whether they're open streets, condo communities, apartment complexes, etc to get in and out quickly and efficiently and getting the package to the right spot. He handles all of his quotas with time to spare and heads home.

The people who are delivering now are the same people who were driving Uber/Lyft looking for another way to get paid.

Yeah. When I was apartment dwelling, the mailman was often too lazy to buzz your apartment so you could waltz out and collect your package. Instead, they left the usual notice that you missed delivery and would have to drive 5 miles to pick it up tomorrow. Always pissed me off because I worked 3rd shift and was always home during daytime hours, generally. I KNEW they weren't even trying because my buzzer never sounded.

Based on my experience, ordering items separately does not work to have shipments separated; if they are stocked at the same fulfillment center Amazon will group the two items into one box regardless of whether or not they are in the same order. I know that items that do typically ship separately are large bulky items which are typically stocked at different fulfillment centers from smaller items. Also, clothing generally only gets shipped together with other clothing.

We are talking separating the orders and ordering each item on different days. If you want to order three things separate the orders to be two days apart.

Well after having Prime for years, and being able to renew yesterday at the $99 rate I decided to cancel. The fiancee still has prime through August but I will just not be using Amazon for much anymore for a test run, due to how they treat employees and to see my wallet get fatter. Without the instant gratification of fast shipping I will order a lot less. Dog food was a big thing from Amazon but chewy.com will take care of that for us. I averaged over 250 orders per year the last couple years so this will be an adjustment.

I needed a hard drive. New egg was the same price but $4 shipping...I knuckled under.

Yesterday, I needed a dvi-d to vga cable. Amazon with next day, $14. Staples, $35ish.

Damn that's some shopping! Withdrawal symptoms could be a bitch.

I make use of the Prime membership of a female friend who lives 3 hours away. She's obviously trying to ingratiate herself with me for the purposes of sex. But I digress.

Point is, I use my CC, my (male) name, and my shipping address on her account, occasionally ordering little piddly things I would never order if I had to pay shipping. Amazon obviously knows all this, but let's me do it anyway. <shrug>

They now formally list my CC and addy in their list of options, easy peasy. I LOVE this country!
