oh once you do the math and it's in the 'cart' you don't even have to checkout until Friday

I hope thousands were trying to checkout when we took the site down by getting too many clicking refresh on them

they lost their ass on the 360's and now they probably have tons of pizzed off people that had no idea or cared about this deal pizzed

Is there any legal action route we as buyers can take, like a class-action suit? This "deal" was a total sham, since 99% of the people who tried couldn't even load the page. Unless you're close to Amazon's servers you had ZERO chance to get this thing.

I totally understand the limited quantities, and I would understand if I loaded the page and went through the buying process, but 1,000 people were quicker. But to not even be able to load the page at all is a crock of sh1t.

It's Thanksgiving. This is probably a slow time for them. This was a real easy promotion to get lots and lots of folks to their site prior to the holiday shopping season.

dude...no one can get to their site...

nah..but I know what your saying...sure they'll be analyzing the longterm advantages of these deals after their done.

This is actually a really stupid promotion, because now they have (maybe) 1000 "happy" customers and about 9,999,000 "unhappy" customers who feel cheated because the page wouldn't load, or loaded blank at exactly 11:00 like it did for me and others.

So I got bumped out of the running by a server glitch? Does that make me want to shop at Amazon? No, not really.

I don't think it's a scam, just bad publicity.

They'd be better off with a more traditional contest. What do you want to bet that all the winners are running E43 connections out of their offices in the same region as Amazon's servers? Probably scripted responses to everything but the "security" question.

What's kind of sick is when people actually get to the security question, and then get booted out after that. PSYCH!

At least with a traditional contest, you have a chance of winning.

It's why I gave up on w00t! All the good items are sold out in 5 seconds - it takes longer than that for me to load the damned confirmation page! I'd reload, click the order button, and by the time it loaded the next page it would be sold out!

kissfan, it was gone in under 30 seconds, ie I finally loaded the page 30 seconds after 11 (synched with amazons time clock. Also I refreshed the page seconds before 11 incase they manualy opened the sale at not exactly 11)

It does make you go hmmm when you think that 1000 people successfully loaded the page and answered the security question in 30 seconds when it was clear everyone was getting delayd (but not droped) server responses due to load.

i'm not pissed about this, but i am pissed about my ps3 preorder getting canceled:

Greetings from Amazon.com.

We're writing about your recent order for the Sony Playstation 3 from
Target at Amazon.com.

Amazon.com recently encountered a problem that caused the Sony
Playstation 3 to appear as available to order for a short period of
time from Target at Amazon.com.

Unfortunately, this item is not actually available for purchase and
Amazon.com has cancelled this item from the following order(s)

the 5 minutes from page to page pretty much gave most of us no chance... i wonder what "special tricks" some people had up their sleeves to access those pages quicker than the rest of us.

There should be. They failed to provide any bandwidth to handle the traffic load. They should never have done the deal in the first place if they weren't prepared for the load.

FYI the PS3 offered by costco caused their site to be unresponsive for approximately 6 hours+

my estimate of this little feat by amazon will cost them 3+ hours. i feel sad for the oncall engineer that's working today, lucky if he can get out to have dinner with family.

NO! You suck it up like a man and STFU.

Besides, distance means very little, as once you get past the congested part of their network, what's another few milliseconds?

Yeah that was ridiculous. They should've offered a low-bandwidth page where refreshes don't kill all their bandwidth. Amateurish.

The site was blazing fast at 2:08, so three hours of downtime won't be a problem.

Well, I was able to get to the second part where they asked that math question. Clicked the yellow button but was sold out by the time I got a response.

Ah well, knew I had to be super lucky to get one given that their site would be pounded. heh.

Amazon.com is already responding normally, but they really need to stop taunting us with the ad on the front page
