Good for little child only. Can't think of any reason to use this tablet.

I can't really recommend giving this tablet to a 2 year old when it shows ads like this on it's lock screen:

Yeah, that ad (and several other slot machine game ads) showed up on the lock screen of my daughter's Kindle Fire. She's 2 1/2. Not cool.

I think the first iPad had that resolution. You can probably find a first gen iPad for $20. I have kindle HD 7" and don't really like it at all, mostly the user interface and ads.

I think that the original iPad had a 1024x768 screen resolution. I still have one, and it looks better than this screen does. The iPad screen (even now) is much brighter.

Kids like slots too!

They've got root and the ability to change launchers.

Oh and play store works too.

I wonder is the ad mechanism able to target by age of the owner?

Honestly, I'd actually rather have this sort of ad shown to my kids (well, neither of them has a tablet of their own, and certainly not at age 2) than whatever ads would be specifically targeted to a 2 year old.

What, I'd rather a constant bombardment of "Buy this super fun sugary cereal!" or "You just gotta have THIS toy!" vs. something the kid has no idea about and could care less about?

It seems to. I noticed that I'm getting a mix for kids games and accessories ads now. Oh, and Game Of War ads. Lots of Game Of War ads.

I also disabled the "objectionable content" category in the Offers app, which seems to have made the gambling games disappear.

That's funny, my experience has been smooth.

What launchers can you get that aren't just another running task? Last I rooted mine, the only thing I found to actually be rid of the Kindle interface was installing the android OS itself and you had to choose just the right one and sounded kind of iffy. But that was a year ago.
I just want a very basic UI with minimal tasks so I can maximize battery life. But if you're talking about paste on's like Go launcher then you can't even launch Kindle app last I knew but I want a native launcher or at least something where kindles launcher isn't running at all.

I just picked one up from Amazon for $39, since my daughters HP tablet has been having charging issues. I played with the Amazon Fire OS for a little bit...it's not terrible, but I wanted stock Android.

The model I received hadn't been upgraded to Fire OS 5.1 yet, so I was able to simply Install CM 12.

Guide here --- http://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/help/tip-buying-fire-powered-want-to-install-t3277552

So far, the tablet reminds me of my old Nexus 7 2012 8GB model, but much faster since that model had terribly slow eMMC storage. While the resolution is lower than the old Nexus 7 2012, the difference isn't that noticeable. I've got some testing to do, but so far so good.

I'll update with some performance numbers once I get them. $39 for a tolerable Android tablet isn't too shabby.

That's the 6-pack. Buy 5 get 1 free.

For anyone who has five other people they hate as much as themselves.

Kidding aside, it's a $50 tablet. I don't know what people really expect for that, but at $50, I wouldn't feel bad leaving it with a small child. Even if they destroy it, it's only $50.

If you just need something to play some simple videos for a kid that's too young to care if it's not HD video, this seems like a pretty good deal.

Ran a couple of benchmarks. Seems the MediaTek MT8127 CPU @ 1.3GHz holds it's own, but the Mali 450-MP GPU is pretty dated by today's standards. These are with CM12 installed.

Just a quick comparison from AT's recent smart Phone numbers. 3Dmark Ice Storm unlimited.

Also, here are some AnTuTu numbers.

Obviously the tablet is not a bruiser, but it's still pretty capable. Minecraft PE runs at a solid once a couple graphical options are disabled. Great kids tablet.

Did you noticed that screen density is (171 ppi / 1024 x 600)?
I suggest you to not to go for this device. If possible increase your budget, otherwise go for an used one.

For $40 I bit. I installed Google Play. The camera is awful, but overall pleased with this for what it is. If you have Amazon Prime, Fire OS is nicely integrated with its perks.

I am using it for the Torque app with a bluetooth elm327 ODB-II device.

Of course. It's not great by any means, but it's at least an IPS display, and I don't think most kids would mind. It's not something I would want to use as a daily driver tablet, but it can be made into lots of things; ex. Car Dash, kid's tablet, Visual intercom, Remote for AV devices, Fridge tablet, etc...
