I'm sitting on $150ish of theater gift cards from Christmas last year, and I haven't been to a movie since the newest Star Wars. Every time I think about going to see something, I always reason with myself: "eh, I could just watch XYZ that I still haven't seen, I won't have to leave my house, I can enjoy the movie without disruption, pause whenever I want, and not spent $5 for a bottle of water."

Besides, when you only sit 7' from the screen, 100" is big enough.

Also they dont have any beer, or the ones that do usually have just shitty beer. Also, they allow children into the theaters! what the hell is with that!

It's certainly not confined to kids and young adults either. Plenty of people 40+ treat their phones like they dispense heroin.

the amc i go to lets you being in any food you want. they are located in the eatery at the mall so they don't care. they still have lines for the $5 sodas too.

Their servers crouch like grandma and move like ninjas. You order via a paper system. It's an awesome experience.

Just to be clear, the CEO did state that there would need to be separation and some way to ensure that the smartphone users can't bug the others. Frankly, I don't think it's a good idea anyway, and segmenting users has always been awkward. It's like what happens when you walk into a restaurant and ask for a seat, but they only have seats in the smoking section available. What happens when you go to buy a seat and the only one available is in the tweenie-bopper texting section?

Having seen a large amount of movies at an Alamo Drafthouse I can assure you that the servers and the ordering system are not distracting in any way. In addition I would say nearly 90% of the ordering and food delivery happens before and during the previews.
