AMC's "The Killing"

New show on AMC, Sunday at 10pm. Started last week, April 3, but I completely forgot about it. Like Mad Men and Walking Dead, it's rebroadcast on Sundays at 9pm though. Caught the first 3 episodes yesterday, loving it.

Has a 'Heat' vibe going for it. A bit of Silence of the Lambs with the female lead.

Not nearly as "Look at me, I'm weird" as Twin Peaks, and therefore infinitely better.

It's atmospheric in a grounded and believable way. It's a pretty good show, imho.

Seen the first 3 episodes and it's pretty good, it finally picked up pace last night. At first I thought it might just be a drawn out episode of Law & Order but we shall see. AMC can't do wrong as of late, except maybe for Rubicon.

I don't "get" Rubicon, so I haven't bothered to watch it. Don't know if it's good or not, I'll reserve judgement.

'The Killing' is amazing in its victim impact angle. All the usualy crime shows just gloss over the fact that someone's friend/family member is dead. I almost shed a tear when they first found the corpse.

Watched the first three eps last night. I'm liking it so far. It's like a slow burn that will open up gradually. I mean it took nearly the whole first episode just to find the body. I have to agree that the impact on family is just something that is never really shown in such detail - both her family and the victim's family. I have a feeling that it would eventually get slow/tiring, but I read it's only thirteen episodes total, which would seem to be a good number to stop at.

Loving the atmosphere and rainy setting of Seattle. I also really did not like the partner at first but he is becoming an interesting contrast of styles between them. Not really interested in the political aspect as much.

Pretty good so far. If it's true that it's only thirteen episodes, I think that's a good thing. It's been playing like an hours long movie or something as opposed to some sort of episodic drama.

The thirteen episode thing sounds good. More a mini-series than a regular show. Kind of copying BBC/British TV where they sometimes just have 9 episode "series" or events.

I strongly disagree. I'm watching the 3rd (I think) ep right now and I'm reminded again about just how good and unusual the photography is in this production.

It's extremely finely crafted. Pay attention, the effort is worth it.

I watched the first half hour or so of the first 2 hour portion. I have the rest DVR'd along with the new episode from last night. It was alright so far, the whole politics side story was terrible though. I think it's on it's way to being overrated like all of AMC's shows(I don't mean they aren't good though)

Another good one that just had it's second episode this past Sunday is The Borgias on Showtime. First episode was better than the second, but it definitely has room to grow. Not sure if it's a 1 season thing or a full on series.

Yep. One of the best-shot TV series I've seen in a long time.

However.

I could do with just a tad less "3/4's view of wonky-eyed female detective somberly staring into space on the edge of the frame" shots. It seems like every time there's a reveal that's how they lead into it.
