I liked the finale and series as a whole, but i wish they would rap up the Mr. Aimes and the Indian Chick going to jail or something. Instead Darren is all buddy buddy with them at the end. Maybe showing his true character as the killer had said.
Which is weird, because he doesn't have as much to gain from them now. Maybe he has to work with them because of their positions, but the tone made it seem like he's now a crooked insider.
Also, the 'happy ending' for the Larsen clan is pretty hollow, Stan should be going to jail for assault & battery.
I think I'll skip a season 3 if there is one.
Stan
is scheduled to go to jail.
I kind of think maybe both of you are missing what I think is the series' concluding point, especially regarding Darren. There's not one unblemished good guy in the whole lot, and nobody is really getting any happy ending at all.
It's misery and malfeasance all around in non-sunny Seattle.
Darren: Despite sometimes trying to do the right thing, Darren is
exactly like his crazy and murderous aide said he was before just before Holder shot him -- a political opportunist at heart. He's cozying up with Ames and the Indian woman for precisely the reason his aide said he should: To secure the funding for his next political race. And, he may have won the mayor's race, but he's never going to walk again and his wife, who was dead before the series began, still is.
Stan: Stan is going to jail, and for quite some time, for beating up that teacher. He may have loved his sons, but he wasn't above smacking them around and saying some horrible things to them at times. Plus, he's a past murder. Sure, they have that house, but his (step?) daughter is dead, his kids traumatized, he's going to jail, and who thinks his flake wife won't just take off again?
Linden: She loves her son, but repeatedly left him in dangerous situations. He's now in Chicago, and likely not coming back. Her impending marriage is dead in the water. And she has to live with the fact that she was point in a bumbling murder investigation that resulted in one innocent guy being put in a wheelchair while another innocent guy got beaten within an inch of his life.
Holder: Got the living shit kicked out of him by the tribal police and could still regress into his hard drug addiction at any point. Plus, the unmarked car assigned to him is a 15-20 year old mid-life Chrysler missing at least one hubcap. How sad is that?
I could do down through each character here, but I think you get the point.
No joy in Rainville, and there never was going to be.
I really loved this show. Atmospheric to the max.
