Well I signed up when Anandtech and Dailytech were one, so I could comment and rate comments.

I feel the need to upgrade the video card so I started getting up to speed with what's new. Entered the forums in search of newly released info for this new gen. of cards and this is a pretty big forum. Got the general direction of where things are going and being a first big node change in many years, I think it should come with big changes in performance. NVidia did but didn't keep the prices. Even though I'm no target for 1070/80 that would surely mean 1050/60 goes up so... I hope AMD relly delivers. Couldn't stand the half truths and "focus groups" that try to channel some directions and felt the need to intervene.

Sidenote, I just realize my video card is approaching 4 years. Dang!

Well welcome back... what card are you replacing? The 480 seems like it will be a good card if you ask me, and not crazy expensive. Unfortunately I will probably have to wait for Vega since I currently have a 970.

I don't think it sucks if what we get as top SKUs for each die is not far behind the fully enabled SKUs in all metrics. If we get something like 25% disabled resources, 20% lower frequency and same TDP, then yes, it sucks.

That could really be the case. The cooler on the RX 480 teased looks pretty huge for it performance class.

It sucks rather a lot less than the (non console, no Apple etc) alternative of having AMD fold entirely would!

From what I gather, most people believe that both the 480 and 470 are cut-down Polaris 10 (so-called C7 and C4) while full Polaris 10 (C10) is going to Apple (ala Tonga).

Yeah but ppl forget Tonga is a much bigger chip than P10 366mm² v 216mm². P10 being smaller means more chips per wafer. AMD also doesn't need to provide Apple with a years supply on day one.

Also a RX 490 would be almost certainly have a higher tdp than the 480 ...165w? Therefore it's perf/watt along with it's higher price could mean it's not quite as sweet for Apple as the 480.

And it seems to me there is just too bigger gap between where the 480 is likely to be price/performance and the next tier (1070).

I still think RX 490 on the 29th.

Sorry to disappoint many people, but there is no 67C10 Device ID for Polaris.

Only possibilities are 67C8 and 67C9. Likely? Not exactly.

I used my 5770 back in the day until it died, was a good card.
