Regardless of it being LN2, it is a hell of an Overclock. This really separate the mens from the boys. We think 1.5GHz was good. The Japs think 2.1GHz was good.

These results show that despite the short pipeline, heat is still the only thing preventing K7 core from ramping to P4-like clockrate.

Longer Pipeline does NOT guarentee high clock speed as many of you thought. It is a BALANCED pipeline that the Athlon has that makes it so overclockable.

This is utter nonsense. The current Athlon architecutre can NOT allow for signal strength high enough to attain those speeds.

It's an obvious fabrication, but it tells volumes about the depth of understanding and true level of knowledge by many participants on this very board. Many of you sem to think that cooling can let CPUs ignore laws of physics. Cooling is simply a NESCESITY for stable operation.

Firingsquad overclocked a P4 1.7Ghz @ 1.9Ghz because it is possible, and within the limits of the current P4 architecutre. No special cooling was required -- cooling is SIMPLY the nescesity of keeping signal integrity stable. Keeping it more cool doesn't IMPROVE signal strength.

xtreme2k; A valid point, but adding stages certainly helps a lot in making a pipeline balanced. It allows critical stages to be broken up more.

BTW, in my opinion as well everything seems to point that Information == GUTB. Perhaps moderators should be informed?

A P4 at 2.4Ghz would be very fast, and likely a reality sometime next year. However, the P4 already out-performs the fastest Athlon. Sorry.

An 800 mhz oc is no big deal for the japs. They just completed that p4 900mhz oc to 2.4 from 1.5 with a custum clock generator. Good stuff...

I'm no Intel zealot (my next rig will be a tbird), but the P4 IS competing NOW. Look at the P4 reviews. The P4 1.7ghz is holding it's own agains the 1.33ghz athlon. I'd still get the tbird over teh P4, but the P4 is still holding it's own.
