I was just wondering if the XP line of processors had the same installation difficulties as the older Athlon processors. I'm referring to the weakness of the chip itself and the high chance of cracking it while placing the heatsink on it.

Would you guys recommend any special techniques during installation. I'm going to be installing the XP 1600+ on a ASUS A7V266-E with a Thermaltake Volcano 6Cu+.

Of course, thanks in advance.

Yes they do.

The Thermaltake heatsinks are nice to put on, though.

Gently place the HS where it looks like it's supposed to go and clip the rear hook.

Use a blade screwdriver in the front hook (there's a special place for it) and gently push down and hook it.

Easy as pie.

ps- don't forget the heatsink compound..

Thanks...

Is the thermal compound really that important? The Thermaltake Volcano 6CU+ comes with some white thermal paste. But i know once i put that stuff on, I cant really use the heatsink again if i remove it.

you need something there, even basic compound will work. you can get it off later by using rubbing alcohol.

Thermal compound is extremely important. Without it, your CPU is very likely to overheat and burn. Thermal compound assists in heat transfer from the chip to the surface of the heatsink.

It is proven that good compound can reduce the CPU temp. by several degrees.

What are you saying?
that once you put Thermal Paste on it you cant use it again?

Please explain.

I recommend Artic Alumina for a Thermal Compound, it works just as well as ASII but isnt conductive, you dont have the chance of frying your CPU that you do with ASII.
