I have an AMD 1700+ processor running on top of a Gigaabyte GA-7DX motherboard. I'm trying to turn this into a server, but my chipset fan and Cpu fan need replacement. It says the board is socket 761, but i cant find any heatsink fan combos or even just the replacement fan. It's 60mm. Will a generic fan be able to mount on as a CPU fan replacement?

I also need a 40mm for the chipset, but cant find one anywhere. Can anyone help me out with getting some info on this problem. Thanks

You don't need a fan for the chipset. Just get a passive heatsink. Search for "northbridge heatsink". As for the CPU, any heatsink made for Socket A will work.

If already have a heatsink on the northbridge,is it possible to replace it with a better one, say a zalman without damaging the chipset

That motherboard is Socket A, and northbridge on it is AMD-761 so that any Socket A cooler can go on your processor.
As for northbridge heatsink ... as I can see, it is glued onto northbridge, so you will have to be very carefull if you will
try to remove it .... I do it with wide screwdriver ... place it under the heatsink and twist easily ... until it pops off ... but
you have to be very carefull not to damage the PCB ... couse that could kill your MoBo ... When you remove it, you
can place Zalman onto it with Zalmans glue ... couse you cannot screw it onto the mobo ....
Do you have ventilator on that heatsink ? I can see on the web that there are those MoBos with and without the vent,
so if you don`t have it, there is the easiest solution .... place a vent onto it .... you dont need anything more than that.

what do you mean by vent? There is a 60mm fan that mounts on top of the heatsink if thats what you are asking? Are heatsinks themselves easily replaceable?

Yes, I meant fan

Well, couse it is glued onto chipset, removal will be the only "problem", but by being carefull, there
will be no problem.
