I just put in a new chip and Motherboard. Retail AMD 1800 under no load it runs at 47 C /116F, System board is around 30C/86F & Room Temp is about 73 F...

I went to AMD and all they say is MAX temp for XP is 90C

So, what's the real deal? Should I be woried if under load the cpu goes up to 5X?

Thanks for you input!

Your room is pretty warm, so that's a normal temperature. My 1700+ at 1800+ speeds runs at about 49-53C full load depending on the room temp at the time. You don't really need to worry unless it's unstable, or it starts creeping into 60C territory. My idle temps are very low, but I enabled the VIA halt instruction, so I get between 35-39C idle. However, since I run SETI 24/7, my machine never idles.

My 1800+ retail ran at 47C (full load) with about the same room temp as you. 47C under no load seems a bit high, but not really high enough to cause concern. I wasn't satisfied with my temps. I installed an Evercool/Kingwin CUD-725 copper heatsink/fan combo with Arctic Silver 3 two days ago, and my full load temps went down to 41C max. The Evercool fan puts out 42 CFM at only 32 dba (retail fan puts out about 24 CFM at about the same dba). Got it from nexfan.com for $17.99 (retail is usually around $35).

I wouldn't worry about it unless you want to overclock. In which case I would buy a better hsf combo.

Living in FL, I would say that your 73F room temp is not warm! Anyway, my room temp is 76-78 typically and my 1800 is running in the mid to high 60's (Celcius) under full load. I have been told that this is an acceptable temp and not to worry about it. Although I have had zero problems, I plan to add another fan or maybe upgrade the case. (I have an Enlight 7237 which I thought flowed the air pretty good, but I guess not.)

I'm using a generic 60 mm 3K rpm fan and a artic alumina+small copper heatsink, 60C under load. Crashes at 67-69C when room temp reaches 80+ under load.
Your 47C is fine.

Edit: Do you have any case fans on the system?
