"Nardman" about what I was saying about the cpu killing the motherboard it's NOT a Theory so you don't really need to correct me on this,, if you read my first post then you should see , THE WORSE that can happen....., not that it will happen for sure,, but the WORSE that can happen, and damaging the motherboard is one of them, are you saying it's not ever posible in anyway to damage a motherboard by running a Chirpped CPU?

Well, HappyNic...I'm not sure as well to your "worse" tht will happen. From the above post...plenty of ppl run chipped core CPU in their mobo. Some had been for years. I was thinkin...maybe you are too sceptical bout this matter.

Btw, I heard over another forum tht a chipped CPU is not stable if u run specific application. Their arguement is IF the CPU need to process "certain" information using those "broken transistor"...then the PC will hang,BSOD & etc.

My question is: - Are transistors in the core hv a specific function each of them...OR very single bits of those transistor are the same (means they can equally process any information) ? Any specialist in these area ?

Hey wind, I just looked at your system specs and I'm very proud of you. The Abit BH-6 has got to be one of the 1337est mobos evarr...I was using mine with a p3 450 up till about a week ago(just upgraded to an a7n8x w/ an xp2100). It's nice to see another bxboard user still hangin around.

Are you referring to different areas of the processor? If so, then yes, some of them do have special functions. Some of the transistors on Athlons(and current intel chips too) are used specifically as cache for the processor<SRAM>. These transistors take up quite a bit of real estate on the processor die. Also, various processor instruction sets(3dnow, SSE) are programmed into the circuit logic of the CPU. I'm n

Well, TQ Nardman. The BH6 is definately one of the classic. But the system spec on my profile is old (didn't update it). I sold the BH6 together w/ a P2 400 in April this year. Kinda miss it since u mentioned it again.

So Nardman...a chipped core CPU do becomes unstable if the broken transistor is require to process a piece of information right ? Is like if the SSE (example) transistor is broken (chipped off the core)...so the CPU will NOT hv SSE enhancement. I'm I right ?

I believe so...I couldn't really say actually when the system would crash...the processor may run diagnostics before an SSE program could be ran, but ya, specific parts of a chip perform specific actions. And on the BH note, I just relocated mine out of my main comp too<sniffle>. Oh well my new a7n8x will dry my tears...this board rocks! 5.1 here I come, w00t!

Well, I left this thread for a while...since I'm RMAing my mobo. The mobo came back 3 weeks ago. Put everything back...run into some s/ware stability probs. Fixed it. Just tested my hardware stability for the past 2 days.

memtest86 - 7 hrs 30 mins...w/ no error.
prime95 - 7 hrs 30 mins...w/ no errors.

But I do hv to up the vcore from 1.65v to 1.675v to gain stability...else there would be error in Prime95. The stability test is done @ stock settings.

Seems all well here. So, for those w/ a chirpped core...if u r able to still boot up ur system...chances are the system might still be rock solid.

Will test the system later & c how it perform under O/C environment.
