AMD 2500xp M ... 1st overclock :)

So I picked up the parts last night after work:

So I throw everything together and boot her up. Everything looks good and I install Windows 2k and all the service packs. Get the drivers up and on.

Now I install 3D Mark 2001 and do a bench (wanted to see what i was getting without any tweaks)

Scored a 8900 lol

so I was like wtf?

So I just do a quick system spec and I see that both 3D Mark and Windows are showing my CPU as a 800mhz Duron ? Hmmmm

So I shutdown and jump into BIOS ... I bump it 11x 133 fsb ... restart

1400 mhz ok so far so good

BIOS again 11x 200 fsb ... restart

2200 mhz ... ah yes ok

Back in Windows load up 3D Mark again ... boom 18000

so that is it ... it was almost 1am by the time I was done so I packed it up and went to bed but I was very pleased with my 1st overclock. I was surprised the Samsung RAM was able to perform the way it did ... considering its alot less in price then say OCZ or Kingston.

Has anyone had that funny underclock like I did tho?

It's just what the bios detects the cpu as. Mine defaults at 600mhz on my Biostar board... You have to manually specify the fsb and multiplier on the mobile bartons.

The same thing will happen on some NF2 boards if you try to use a multiplier greater than 12.5x. A multiplier of 13.0x will make the board use the lower 6.0x multiplier.

A few newer boards like the NF7-S and the DFI Lanparty will let you use the full range of multipliers.

What voltage are you running to get to 2.2GHz? I have a mobile chip but my board only supports DDR333 FSB and I can't use any multipliers higher than 12. Right now I have an XP-M 2400 running at a little over 2GHz @ 1.6v.

I am using 11x and 200 fsb = 2200 mhz

there is my 2001 mark score. I actually hit 17950 when I put the GPU back to double frame buffer.

Nice OC. With that case/PS/heatsink you seem to have pretty good power and cooling. I bet if you bump your VCore to 1.85 and your Vdimm to 2.9 you can hit 210x12 (2520 Mhz) or higher. I am running my mobile 2500 at 215x12 (2580) at 1.93 Vcore and 2.9 Vdimm. Good luck.

Nope, air. Chieftech full tower case with 5 case fans. Thermalright SLK800 with Vantec tornado 80mm. Computer in the the basement where air temp is pretty cool. CPU temps are 37/42 idle/load. I would not recommend running the Vcore that high either if your CPU temp is high.
