AMD 2800+ Thoroughbred not Barton

Does anyone know where I could buy the AMD 2800+ Thoroughbred alone (without having to buy a motherbaord, fan and so on). The Thoroughbred has:

256Kb L2 Cache
2.23Ghz Clock Speed

All I see is the Barton version, which is clocked at 2.03Ghz (or so) and has 512Kb L2 Cache. I was told that the Thoroughbred is a better performer, is this true?

Naaaaah... even the T-bred has a higher clockspeed than the 3000+ but don't worry... AMD wouldn't designate a higher PR rating on there for nothing... i'd go with the Bartons if i were you... 512k cache... good luck finding a 2800+ T-bred Heard the Bartons overclock like crap though...

Not that I have much choice, as I cannot find the 2800+ Thoroughbred Thanks for the info, I remember reading somewhere that the 2800 Thoriughbred was a better performer than the 2800+ Barton, but I can't seem to find this anywhere.

It depends on the application. If the program uses the same set of data over and over again, then it relys heavilly on the cache. 256 kB of cache is often too small for those programs (ie they use more than 256 kB of data repeatedly). Thus the Barton will help drastically. Other programs use data once and then don't need that data for quite some time (encoding often does this - it reads from one end of the memory to the other without many repeats of the same data). In that case the cache doesn't help at all; and the Thoroughbred's faster clock speed means it is faster than the Barton. Of course most people use a mixture of programs and thus on average they are the same.
