hi there
I recently bought a AMD 3Ghz Processor (ITS NOT A AMD64)
I had problems initially with getting it to read as a #ghz.I did a Bios update and it now reads as a 3GHZ.

I have an my Gigabyte motherboard supports my processor (both brand new).
But once in windows and if u check the clock reading it only reads it as a 2.2Ghz.
All settings are correct in bios and on motherboard.

When i play NFS Underground its ok until u do a burnout of anyhitng intense then it slows donw BADLY.

I have a 64mb 3D Card
512 (DDR400) RAM
140GB HDD

What could be the problem and whats the solution?

Thanks in advance.

Your Athlon XP 3000+ does truly run @ 2.2GHz. The "3000+" is a performance rating that basically means it runs as fast as the old Athlon Thunderbird if it were to run at 3GHz (it topped out at 1.4GHz).

The problem is most likely the video card. The info you provided "64MB 3D Card" doesn't tell us anything about the card, but that is most likely the bottleneck. It could also be the resolution and graphics settings slowing it down. Some more info would tell for sure.

you can't buy a 3ghz amd, u would need to overclock an amd a lot to reach 3ghz's. You probably have a axp 3000+ which is 2ghz

EDIT: get a new video card

Graphics card is probably to blame. It seems your CPU is already overclocked? Athlon XP Barton 3200+ is 2.2ghz. The 3000+ is 2.0ghz right guys?

If you have a spare 120$ look at ATI Radeon 9600XT

the 3000+ is 2.167GHz on 333fsb
the 3200+ is 2.2GHz on 400fsb

JamesB probably just rounded up, and the guys posting before are probably right... Your graphics card is to blame. As for the 3000+ model number, it's called that to indicate that in games it is comparable to a stock 3.0GHz P4.

Maybe it's that weird ass 140GB I have never heard of that's causing the problem...you make that yourself?

There's also a 400 MHz FSB version of the 3000+ to factor into the mix.

This guy is new. Stop picking on him. Its not as though you were the PC's Gods (or Godesses) when you signed up so dont expect everyone to.

There is an AMD 3000+ processor for sale which runs at 2.2 ghz. The 3000+ is its Performance Rating meant to make the processors compare more easily to each other.

Your processor looks fine. The reason you are having trouble in NFSU is your graphics card. 64mb to me would indicate its most likely a Geforce4 Ti4200 or a prior card, the latter being most likely. If you want better performance, there is an option in there that if disabled, it improves performance quite nicely but you will need to buy a new graphics card to really improve performance.

I cant remember the graphics option but I believe it is smoke or particles. It stops the smoke being showed when you wheelspin. The smoke would cripple even my 9800Pro so its bound to hurt your system a lot more.

You can damned sure bet most of us did the research on the hardware before building a rig though Not knowing a 3000+ isn't the clockspeed going into the build is inexcusable IMO, period. This is basic knowledge not uber1337 enthusiast stuff anyone who lurks here is familiar with, so getting his chops busted about the blatant ignorance on the topic may just inspire him to better research what he is spending his money on next time If not, at least I got a much needed laugh, what with the hurricanes and all I've been dealing with the last couple months.

I remember seeing what the best processor was from the official website then buying the best bang for buck chip at the time which everyone i knew at that time did and some still do.

Although it does specifically say that he bought a CPU, perhaps he bought an entire system.. unlikely though. Possibly he did what I used to do, checked the best processor he could used Vs. the best he could afford and plonked it in? Some people just want the plug and play style then come to the forums with problems.... others like you and I get opinions, price things up, shop hunt, review hunt, bitch on for system critiques then buy when we are happy.

Most pc buyers will only understand how to use a CDROM/DVD and printer etc. etc., some pc buyers think that they can dabble in pc building without much outside help/reserch and end up with a 'lop-sided' pc.

I admit I laughed too, been a while since ive seen something like this but at least I tried to help rather than humiliate.

Commandment #11. Thou shalt not be stoned on the sabbath.

YEah, the graphics card is really holding him back but if he's happy then Im not complaining. I will be complaining if he goes out and buys something we dont approve of

But seriously some of the guys here offer some advice that companies should pay money for. Its always worth giving the forums a shot.
