AMD 4000 overclocking

Currently running a 4000+ (San Diego) with zalman 7000b cooler, a8n-sli mb and 2gb corsair ram. CPU is at stock clocks/1.4v and idle/load is around 31/42 with the zalman at 3/4 speed. I'd like to bump up the CPU to 2.6ghz. I havent been into overclocking CPU's in a long time, so to get to 2.6ghz should i just up the ram speed and voltage? I know the multiplier is locked on the 4000+. Thanks.

2.6GHz is not a big OC (16.666... MHz jump) so you can leave your memory divider at "200"... You'll probably not even need a voltage increase for this, but YMMV of course...

So just up the Processor Frequency (or whatever it's called) to 217MHz... Lower your HTT to 4x though (it will not give you a performance deficit)...

If it starts to crap out, you may need to up the voltage of your RAM a bit...

Afterwards, let Prime95 or OCCT run for a reasonable time (say some 4 hours or more) to bes ure it's stable...

Good Luck!

Alright, i have it at 2.6ghz right now, and lowered the HTT to 4x. I have the vcore set to "auto" and it seems to hover around 1.5v give or take. Should i leave this on auto or just set it manually to 1.5v? Anything else i should know to have a stable OC? Thanks for the help.

I would set it manually, though 1.5 sounds high for that OC. Back down to 1.45, if you can. When P95 testing for min. volts, use large ftts. I think they are ftts?

If i were you i'd:

a) Set the VCore to 1.55 (or 1.5 if you're conservative).
b) Set a RAM divider to 100MHz to take the RAM out of the overclocking equation for now.
c) Lower the HTT to 3X, for now although you won't see any perfomance deficit from this either.
d) raise the HT (FSB) by increments of 5, run prime95 5/10 mins, when it craps out back down the HT (FSB) 5% of the overclock and then test with prime.

MAKE SURE TO WATCH THE TEMPS!

If you're more conservative just do b, c, and d and raise the voltage when it becomes unstable until you get to the highest voltage you want to run at.

After that you can play with the memory and the other stuff.

I have a AMD 64 4000+ ( San Diego) also and would be interested too see what you can get out of it. Please keep us up-dated as to your progress with the o/c. Maybe some details as to how you reached your o/c would be helpful as I have never attempted to o/c before.

Well, as a noob at o/c I have my 64 4000+ at 2.712mhz... used Mogadons tips.. also since I have OCZ mem I used some suggestions in the OCZ thread about timings. Memory is reading at pc2900 but is actually pc3200 guess it may have something to do with my running 4 sticks of 1024mb if I understood some of the stuff in that thread.. had to loosen up the timings some.. am at 3-4-3-8 atm. is this about as good as I can do?..also..where can I get prime95 at to test stability?.. I did do a F.E.A.R. test at around an hour with no problems. temps after gaming were at 29c

I swear by the 4000+ (SD). almost hit 4ghz on vapos and pelts. PC Power&Cooling blew while running my 4000+, 7800GT's, and massive JBOD array. my dfi mobo, cpu, and 1 dimm of OCZ VX Gold went the way of the psu. that cpu is my favorite cpu of all time.

Raised fsb to 220 and have my amd 4000+ running at 2.65ghz. Temps are 52 degrees while running Prime 95 and i have my gigibyte rocket 3D running at half speed. Should i worry about the temperature?

Got errors after 4hr 30mins with Prime. Any advice on what i should do now? Raise voltage to cpu, put the multiplier down and raise the fsb some more? In the meantime i have put the fsb down to 215 and will run another test overnight.
