AMD 5GHz 8-core CPU

Anyone thinking of getting one of these for DC?

It will be interesting to see if they will have any oc headroom. Even with a modest OC, the thought of 8 cores running at 5.2-5.3 GHz sounds good. :thumbsup:

I don't think there is any architecture changes. The FX 8320/8350 had a lot of OC headroom. I think this is just bumping the clock speeds up. Steamroller will be the next change for AMD. You will defiantly see a performance bump hovering around 5 GHz though.

Did AMD ever disclose how much these new CPUs will cost? My concern is that any initial savings (assuming the pricing comes in lower than the 4770K), would be negated over the long term due to its higher power consumption (220W TDP).

On the long term, it might be better to take the initial hit and get a 3930k especially if AVX enabled applications come out

sad but true.... AMD really doesn't have a place in the CPU market other than helping us get our Intel chips a bit cheaper. I sadly miss the days of a competitive AMD. This 5ghz chip still wont perform all that well

I was going to buy an I5 rig but got such a good deal used on my AMD setup coming. Aftermarket zalman cpu cooler, 8 GB Ram, 990FX mobo (will go crossfire eventually), and FX 8350 for less than a new I7 CPU by itself. No doubt Intel is the superior option if price isn't a concern. I don't want AMD going away and don't mind buying their GPUs and CPUs if the price is right. At Stock some guys were comparing the cost of the extra power AMD uses. Stock vs an I5 3570k it was around 30 bucks over 3 years. That goes up the more you overclock though.
