Wow, even the number 3 card has 16GB VRAM and is faster than the 2080TI. And the $1000 6900XT matches the $1500 3090 in performance.

The 3000 parts don't look so hot now.

It's astonishing what AMD have managed to achieve with both the Ryzen 5000 and the Radeon 6000, especially given the absolutely minuscule R&D budget and resources compared to nVidia/Intel. Lisa Su is definitely the "Steve Jobs" of AMD with such a remarkable turnaround.

Looking forward to seeing actual game performance, never mind the RT stuff. Had a 2080S, and now a 3080, still only one game I wanted to play that used RT, and was playable; Control. C2077 will probably be the second, expecting nvidia to be screaming about their 2077 performance with RT on. They will probably get a lot of mileage out of it too, as 2077 is a huge game.

AMD should make a big deal out of their perf/w and much lower power draw for what is rumoured to be near parity performance. Nvidia has been playing that up for a while now, yet here we have them with 350W-400W+ consuming GPUs right now.

This is all spot on. CP2077 will drive hardware sales for the next two years and will probably attain better FPS with RT on Ampere but Nvidia pooped all over efficiency this round and gimped their vram amounts.

Big deal, I've had a 7000 series card for ages. I'm sure a lot of other form users might still have a 7950 or 7970 laying around as well. They're not that uncommon.

And there we have it - more proof that TSMC 7nm is vastly superior to Samsung 8nm. Navi 21with better perf/w and better xtr/mm2 (Navi 51.6m xtrs / mm2 vs. Ampere 45m xtrs / mm2). AMD is going to have the trifecta win this round for technical achievement - better rasterization, better efficiency, and smaller chips. Nvidia will only win on RT performance.

anyone know what time i should try to buy online? some people said they were able to get the nvidia 3000 series cards at best buy website at 6 am Pacific time. same went for the AMD 5000 series cpu.

i'll be keeping an eye on best buy, and amazon, and newegg. but just wondering what time i should expect for it to be listed.

I saw some unverified claims on twitter that 6 am PST is AMDs official release time.

So far I put together B&H Photo, NewEgg, Amazon, and Best Buy are likely to be carrying something online.

For gaming yes, RDNA2 is much better vs Ampere.
But NV will make tones of money selling Ampere in the Professional market for Creation/AI/ML since Ampere is much more efficient in ML workloads with those new Turing Cores.

And one of those "sides", is pointed directly at your (hot) PCI-E 4.0 NVMe drive, heating it just like a blowtorch. Great design, AMD!

To be fair, gumstick m.2 drives winning out creates all kinds of headaches for PCIe video cards. If the u.2 form factor had been a presence on desktops, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

just want to preface and say that i'm completely unbiased, i've owned nVidia and (ATi) AMD cards since the X950 -> X1950 -> 8800GTS days.

the way i see it, nVidia have been kings of Perf/Watt since the GTX600 days (i know, i had the GTX680), just look at all the reviews.
even if AMD puts out a card that draws less power, i'll be amazed if they beat nVidia in Perf/Watt at the same performance level. overall performance? sure. Efficiency? no chance. the architecture was never there for AMD going back to early VLIW days.

Yikes. The Zen3 release wasn't a paper launch, but looks like RDNA2 might be as bad as Ampere. It makes sense, we know AMD is supply limited and Zen3 only takes up a bit over 150 mm^2 (5900x/5950x) at most and half that for single chiplet CPUs. The announced RDNA2 products take up just over 500 mm^2. Obviously you're going to get a lot more Zen3 product out of a single wafer. On top of that, margins for Zen3 will be higher than RDNA2 so AMD has an incentive to give more wafers to that product line.

The only hope gamers have is that AMD can get supply ramped up faster than Nvidia could for Ampere so we're not sitting here mid January with no stock and even launch day back orders unfulfilled.

But surely that only applies to GA100, which is made on TSMC's 7nm not Samsung 8nm.

Well, AMD handled the original GCN release poorly as Tahiti took a long time to mature* but once it did it didn't look too good for the GTX680 either in terms of perf or even perf/watt. As is almost customary, GTX680 wasn't helped by lack of VRAM either.
Hawaii vs GK110 (GTX 780 Ti) wasn't clear-cut either. The both used similar power, and Hawaii matured* better. Again 4GB vs 3GB helped. Hawaii was also the last time AMD had the smaller die (561mm2 versus 438mm2).
*yes that age-old fine wine argument. However, a less charitable view is that both were released long before drivers were mature and left a lot performance on the table.

Horrible. Memoryexpress and Canada computers are the only official online partners in Canada for AMD.

Add on these reviews are dropping at the same time and date as launch along with the comments by Frank Azor about Nvidia launch, AMD is getting scummier than Nvidia when it comes to launches.

Remember we got to see the performance of RTX 3080 in reviews before launch. With the 6800 series, people that are lining up to buy at a physical store, are buying on a paper launch with poor availability along with going in blind(except for AMD benchmarks) with no reviews. Be better AMD, particularly with the review NDA.

Performance review NDA should always come before card launches.

I had a 6800 added to cart but when I clicked on checkout it went to a 'service temporarily unavailable' page. Nice, lol. This was just as bad as Ampere. Frank Azor is going to be torched (and rightfully so) on twitter today.

On Amazon it looked like the Sapphire 6800 non-XT model held up for a good 4 minutes from what I saw.

Everything else everywhere else just blipped by instantly. I wanted an XT.

tried to add to cart on the website, but it just wouldnt go anywhere. its probably coz its not available. i managed to get 1 in the cart, but i couldnt go to the next step in the process and after i refreshed the page, the item in the cart was gone.

best buy has the xfx and msi 6800xt on their page listed as coming soon. does anyone know if those comes out today or next week?

I AM OFFICIALLY AMAZED!

Why so amazing? We knew they'd be competitive, and it is.

The two races are quite well priced Vs each other. (no surprise of course!).

Mostly a fight to see who can ship more (or less )

Very interested to see where the mobile GPU's end up. That could be very interesting.

Wow I hate to so it, but I'm a little disappointed. I was expecting the 6800xt to be faster than the 3080 in rasterization but its actually a little slower. And in RT it gets straight up smoked.

The 3070 gets spanked in rasterization vs. the 6800, but again AMD chokes in RT. DLSS is the 3070's saving grace but the 6800 is a better product overall when factoring in the vram.

I *love* the power consumption though. Incredibly impressive. If AMD's version of DLSS is out by March, and depending on how good it is, supporting games, etc. that will make or break which camp I go with.
