Usage is still same. Just bit more gaming like once a week or so. Battlefield and crysis..
I got amd ati 6850 2gb ram.

Budget would be around 200to 250$

Uh oh....gaming lol. Drives up the specs for your build, particularly those two games. Do you live near a microcenter? If so, for around $250.- you can get a 4690k and a z97 mobo. Pretty much anihilates any task you may want to throw at it now, and in the forseeable future.

What's 'so-so' about cheap H81/B85 mobos?

Limited features compared to higher spec boards, Fewer SATA3 ports, fewer memory slots, fewer USB3, some don't even offer HDMI, lack of RAID chipset, etc

Pairing a fairly potent CPU such as i5 with a H81 is not ideal.

there is enough of everything.
people buying $50 MBs probably don't care about more than 2 sata III, raid or usb3.0

also 2 memory slots is enough for 8GB or 16GB, which also what most people use...

H81 board (or b85) is fine with a core i5, it's a good combination for good performance/$

People buying $170+ CPUs usually don't match it with $50 mb. Makes no sense really

well, they should, I'm using an i5 with the cheapest possible MB, and it performs just like an i5 should with an $40 or $300 MB, it's also been running almost 24/7 for 3 years or so.

your programs don't run faster because of how many ports are left empty.
it makes no sense to pay for additional features if you are not going to use them,

Upgrading to a Phenom II X6 would give you additional snappiness at minimal cost. That's the biggest difference I saw when upgrading my 635 to a 1045T, but overclocking the 1045T stomps all over the 635.

You may even be able to do a FX 4300 or 6300 even though they aren't listed on the CPU support list. The 4300 would be much better than the 635, and the 6300 would be a nicer upgrade over the Phenom II X6.
