i'd wait.. considering the prices that we'll be seeing i wouldn't go with anything less than a 3800+. In terms of performace/price, it takes the cake (according to tomshardware)

I think a 2x4 would work better.

It appears the 3400+ s754 chips from Newegg have the Venice 90nm core. With a good OCing board, those should hit 2.7Ghz easy.

Socket 754 and AGP, but this is still a really good deal. My 7 year old has a P3 1Ghz + Ti4200 AGP...

The PcChips and the Gigabyte are mATX and have cheesy built in video. They don't have an AGP lock, and so, in my limited experience, they complain as soon as you start overclocking them, even with an add on AGP card. Still, they'd be great for grandma. Most people would say stick with Gigabyte.

The Biostar is compact, but still has 5 pci slots. I just got the Grand version (more features), but it should overclock the same. I've boosted my Sempron from 1800 to 2205 Ghz with stock cooling and default voltage. It gives good easy overclocks, but doesn't go far enough for extreme action.

I'm thinking of getting this special and putting the Athlon on the Grand, the Sempron on the NF325-A7 and giving the latter to a mommy who really needs a computer to stay in touch.

Coming from a Socket A Sempron 2400+. Via VA-20 MOBO, 1 gig of corsair value ram and a AGP 9600XT, would buying this combowith the Gigabyte offer a decent improvment in performance? It's for someones rig who plays world of warcraft and is limted by her cpu, even with a 9600XT.

This Gigabyte board is a very solid board but has no Vcore adjustments FYI, just FSB.

How much better would this be than a AMD Athlon XP 2600+ running at 2.14 GHZ on a KT266A motherboard?

I need to upgrade bad

Does Socket A Sempron = Athlon XP?

I have wondered about the Semprons but the XP's were out a few years before the Semprons. The Epox board I have is a socket A board though.

Pretty much, although, I believe the XP chips performed much better than the sA Semprons because of the larger cache size. Stay away from all the sA Semprons.
