So is the Biostar the way to go if one has a decent vid card already & would want to do some light gaming?

I've been running the Biostar for about 2 weeks now and its been nearly flawless. I picked up an Arctic Cooling Alpine 64 HSF (also at Newegg) and the CPU hasn't gone above 40 C. The whole thing (including the HSF) came to something like $118 shipped. Just make sure your power supply is up to the task. I said *nearly* flawless earlier because my PSU started tripping out during long gaming sessions. I put one in with dual 12V rails and its been rock solid ever since.

Is it true that none of these motherboards comes with a SATA cable? I just ordered an OEM Seagate SATA hard drive and that's certainly not going to have one included. It would suck to have to buy one and pay more for shipping than for the damn cable itself.

Looks like it's over... I just got in at the last second. They no longer show ANY S754 A64s at NewEgg, Sempron and Turion only.

have the biostar board with the 3400. I picked up the artic freezer 64, and jumped it right to the middle CPU voltage setting and 2.7Ghz. 12x225. Zero issues. runs flawless. My ram is kingston value ram out of my old P4 2.4 @ 3.2 HT rig, that did not like dual channel. However, as these CPU's will ONLY run single channel, the ram runs like a dream.

Now, I need to trade off my old 8KNXP, and p4 2.4HT @ 3.2

The 99 dollar special is still listed on the AMD processors page, but if you click on the cpu it says it's "deactivated".

My board and chip came in today, but it might be a couple weeks before I can free up the time to do a build up.

When you say "middle voltage" what voltage would that be?

its the middle voltage option in the bios. if you get in the bios you'll understand. its the "middle" value of the three.

Though it says 1600 for HT, isn't the bus really controlled by the mobo and this chip would simply run on a 2000MHz HT if that's what the motherboard is set to?

Looks pretty good... I might grab one of these with the Biostar mb to replace my wifes aging Athlon XP 2400+ system!

Thanks for the update!

Dear god I'm so tempted to buy one of these when I don't need it at all whatsoever.

Thanks for the deal, definitely tempting to upgrade all my old PC. Only problem in my situation is that my old PC's pretty much sit around all day and browse e-mail or look up websites, and I have 4 of them.

Oh believe me there is a 3400+ S939 as I have had mine now for almost 2 years. Performs great and at this price you cant beat it. It was the first 939 chip to come out after the 754 chips and it does run at the 1600mhz. This was the only difference between the 3400+ and 3500+ that runs at 2000mhz.

So if you just set your HT for 5x200 instead of 4x200, what happens? I thought that the motherboard, not the CPU was what the limitting factor was in HT speed.

Old deals were AGP MB, new deals are PCI-E MB. Yet another attractive option to upgrade my old 2200+, but I just got a new AGP 7600GS I'd have to return...

I think the Biostar has an XGP as well as a PCI-E slot. Means you could use the old AGP card for a while and upgrade to PCI-E when it croaks.

Sounds like a better deal to me, but everyone is in a different situation and others might not think so.
