Wow. I am tempted. All I would need to do is switch out the RAM from the system I mention below.

I have a Celeron D 2.66 MXTX system that I leave on 24/7 for a server. I paid something like 70 for the CPU and $70 for the mobo. This is a lot better deal than the system I currently have and I just got that a few months ago.

For overclocking?

Provantage has the Freezer64 Pro for $21 shipped. The stock AMD quad-heatpipe can be found for around $15-$19 shipped as well.

Pretty much, although, I believe the XP chips performed much better than the sA Semprons because of the larger cache size. Stay away from all the sA Semprons.

A little late, friend.

I will be no sweat on replacing the mobo from the case

Thx so much op...now My 1st gaming rig is completed

I am also curious as to whether a sempron of the same socket, cach and clock speed fairs against an Athlon 64.

Wait, I just looked the deal over and it the cpu itself on a seperate page is an OEM. If we get in on this deal, will we have to get a heatsink in addition to the combo?

Yeah I hear you. But it's not too bad. 754 is only about 7-12% slower. What's more, 3400+ is pretty universal. Note how it has a high clock speed versus the comparable 939 slot to compensate.

What I want to know is if it comes with a heatsink.

Edit: Guess I'm out. I was eyeing the Gigabyte because my Q pack could only use Micro motherboards and it faired the best in the reviews. But being limited to the full sized Biostar kills it. What's more, the deal is finished in 8 hours. Damn, just two days away from my pay check. Working for a month in a new job before you see a cent sucks.

"How much better would this be than a AMD Athlon XP 2600+ running at 2.14 GHZ on a KT266A motherboard?"

it depends. i use both socket a sempron 2200 w/9700 pro (m7vig400 combo) and a socket 754 64 3200 w/5900 (k8m800m emachines) for gaming, and i can't tell the difference

Really? I didn't know that a 90nm Venice core S754 is 7-12% slower than their S939 counterpart.

It's the dual channel on-chip memory controller that makes the difference. And it's only 7-12% if you have more than one memory stick. It's only a couple percent difference if you're only going to use, for example, a single 1 Gig stick.

To answer some questions, there is NO HS/F, this is an OEM cpu, meaning cpu ONLY, and 30 day warrenty. The Biostar would be the best board of the 3 offered, it has OC'ing abilities and is Nforce3. I would take any nforce chipset over any VIA, based on my own experience. That cpu is based on the new 90nm technology which = lower voltage = better overclocks. People have gotten these around 2.6-2.7ghz. It would make a great budget build or upgrade for socket A. I'm considering one myself, but need to finish my 939 build first

My sempron 3100+ is running on the motherboard, it ran stable for a 1 1/2 yr @ 230mhz. No hiccups. Really satisfied with the purchase

7-12% is a large number, but in AT's 939 vs 754 review, it just depends on the application

Note: The biostar board has no SATA. That being said it is the best board for overclocking.

Are you sure about that? Newegg listed SATA in the specifications for that board.

How is the VIA K8M800 performance compared to the Nforce3 250GB?

I'd love to get this combo with a MATX board because I have a Celeron system I can replace with this and it is in a mATX case.
