Aquamark3 Scores

GFX 10,227
CPU 9,724

FPS 67
TPS 20,180,690

This was on 1024x768x32
AA off
ANIS 4x
Detail Very High

Above was with Thermal THrot at Disabled

At 50%

GFX was 10,155
CPU 9,724

FPS 66

So I do not believe this to be the "cool and quiet" setting.

IF anyone has the same board GA-K8NS Ultra 939 and has disabled cool and quiet please assist I looked thru my bios and nothing resemebles this, I also read my Manual and i Dont' even see that option.

Ok, try this. Leave cas at 2.5, ras to cas 4, ras precharge 4, tras 10. Also, Are you using a divider? FSB : DRAM should say either 1:1 or CPU:10. This odd because it looks like your memory frequency is fine, but the ratio looks off. Also, you are slightly OCing your system at 209. Drop it down to 200. Ater all that, I guess well go from there. And I doubt this has much to do with Cool N Quiet.

edit: I'll run aquamark in a bit so we can compare, because I think your GFX is way too low for an X800. I'll be back soon.

Well, I just tested aquamark, and I was wrong. You CREAMED my system! Yeah, your better than my system by about what I think is normal, seeing as how I just have a 3000 and 6800GT. So, aquamark is fine for you. I still recommend making those changes I said in my last post though and see what happens .

So can anyone give me any reasons why my HL2 is running so crappy? I have all the latest Drivers and BIOS for all my hardware. I have also reinstalled windows and started fresh and updated.

Main reason for the upgrade was for this game like many other people. I just don't understand why I am running so crappy.

I am tempted to underclock my Vid card and see.

Also is it safe to say my 3d card is working fine since the Aquamark scores came out pretty well?

Any other ideas?

I will aslo try the ram when I get home this evening.

Just curious, what happens when you run everything at stock?

Also another thing I'm curious about is heat. Download Speedfan and have it graph all the temps.

I just use the "freeware" verisons of all these tests I don't know if that means anything.

Anyway my 3DMark05 scoure was 5794

CPU Score was 4271 getting 2.1fps and 3.9fps

That score looks pretty good. I have very similar CPU results. Seems to be specifically HL2 related, which is really weird. If you're running WinXP, do you have SP2 installed? If not, do you have DirectX9.0c installed?

At this point, it's definitely looking like a software issue based on your scores in other programs.

Hmmm, I have WinXP with SP2. Not sure if the SP2 would be affecting my gaming experience. *Sigh* I guess perhaps I should be releaved in a way tho .

I will try the HL2 tweaks and hopefully canfigure this out.

Yeah I'm running SP2 as well, so that shouldn't be it. Unless you're running it with like 16x Antialiasing or something, I'm stumped. Not sure if you posted this already or not (I couldn't find it) but what is framerate you get when you run the video stress test in counter strike? Still in the 20-40 fps range?

When I run the stress test maxed out at 1048 im pullin gin an average of 113 which is wonderful! But get into the actualy game no dice. I am seriously not even able to play parts of the game its running so crappy. and while playing the game im only runnin 4x 6x which is a lot lower then the "stress" test.

So I don't know what the deal is.

If the low fps occurs during CS:S, it is most like your CS:S settings and/or the server you play on. When I first played CS:S I would get 60-100 avg fps but when I would get in a firefight it would drop to like 40 and feel very choppy. I have a 3.2P4 with a 6800GTO. Try increasing cl_updaterate and cl_cmdrate to double the default. Also do net_graph 3 and see if the down and up speeds improve. Even with the new settings, if the server sux, you won't see much improvement in performance.

Off topic, I think source sux. CS 1.6 is so much better. I feel like in source I can't aim as accurately and there seems to be more "random" kills/deaths. Also the models look as though they are floating and the movement doesn't seem as smooth as 1.6. CS:S in general seems like a more cartoony graphics intensive and shoddy gameplay version of 1.6. Just my 2 cents...

I am not so much worried with CS:S and I agree 1.6 is better IMO I dont' really need graphics for CS, you don't typically play these type of games for "graphics" but In HL2 I am having the issues but I will look into the information that you provided

I guess the recent patch to fix the stuttering issue didn't fix it either. I don't know if you've looked at it yet, but you may want to try a few of the steps HERE, particularly steps 5, 2 and 4 (in that order). The reason I'm suggesting this is due to the fact that the stress test (which doesn't include sounds) seems to do so well.

Also, I don't think you mentioned what card/drivers that you're using for sound. Might be something to look at. May even want to try setting sound quality to medium from high and see what happens.

I got the game to a point where its "bareable" to play. Still droppin at around 30 FPS for some reason even on my settings which are not maxed. Oh well I was able to finish the game and hope to figure out the issue so I can play thru it with out feeling like its a chore heh

Thanks for everyone's assistance

*NOTE FOR OTHERS* my Motherbaord the GA-K8NS Ultra 939 has Cool and Quiet disabled by default and the only way to enable it is thru software not Bios, so I am not blind! Its just not there!!

One... I always reinstall the chipset drivers after anything or any other driver... period. Secondly not sure if You are using an onboard sound card... as someone mentioned make sure that is set up correctly with the latest drivers. I have always noted a huge drop in performance using onboard sound over an actual PCI sound card -- but that may have changed with recent mobo's with great onboard sound. Also check your swap file... whenever I experience stuttering (and heck I always do) it's always something writing or reading from my bloody drive. I start disabling stuff like mad till it goes away. Also check to see what your the RAM size you allocated to your video card is in your BIOS... like 64 MEGS or 128 etc.

I recently upgraded to a AMD64 3200 and oc'ing it to 2300 mhz... and I have to admit that I did not get the 'visual" improvement I was hoping for but things do indeed load, switch, close and run faster.... just not as much as I'd hoped. Anyhow check to see what else is running... I know these are simple ideas and you probably way ahead of that stuff but it can't hurt. Again... re-install your chipset drivers

hope you solve it.

I have same board & cpu with 6600GT and run HL2 1280x1024 beautifully, NO slow down, so you have a setting or software issue to resolve!!
