The latest 3000+ stepping OEM from Newegg overclock to an easy 2.6 gigs on water without even pushing it. Mine came yesterday and im really surprised. No need to blow cash on the other models.


my stepping is 0451EPAW and this has been confirmed by others this week who ordered one. Several have gotten 2.6 gigs to 2.7 with an XP 120 air cooler.

Yeah, I don't notice much of a price drop. I bought my 3000+ for like $165 shipped and that was almost two weeks ago.

they're usually the same when it comes down to it. if u see the price is different on one, the shipping will be different in the other.

newegg pricing for the oem 3200 went up to $194. i was going to buy one yesterday but now im going to have to buy elsewhere. a 6 dollar difference between retail and oem doesn't makes much sense.

What is the difference between Winchesters and the Normal A64 and what does nm mean. Thanks, I know this might be stupid but I dont know.

Winchester is the core type of the processer.

Newcastle is the older 130nm process (nm= nanometer)
Winchester is the newer 90nm process

Smaller=less wattage to power=less heat generated=better chance for an overclock. Its also cheaper for AMD to produce as its a smaller die size. More cores per wafer, etc etc.

Anyway, all 3200 A64's and lower 'should' be in only Winchester cores at this time. There are some Winchester 3500's and some Newcastles. Anything above 3500 is still the old die size.

As for this price cut fiasco, talk about playing with your consumers. Monarch had the 3200 at 169 on saturday, then raised it three times yesterday in speed bumps until its back where it started. I suppose they thought they could fool us? Bah. Now I am not so sure I want to upgrade anymore... Yea, right
