AMD 64 TEMP

I have a new amd 64 3200+ on a asus a8v deluxe with the thermalright xp-90 heatsink/92mm fan and i used as5. Before installing an os, I just let the pc run for 30 mins, and then checked the bios, where the temp was around 40c... I thought this was pretty high. I should be getting lower temps right?

those temps are perfectly fine. As long as your load temps don't break 60, you should be fine.

I don't see a problem with it... if you run intensive programs for a while and your temps don't break the high 50s, you'll be quite all right.

I found that while checking temps under load before and after overclocking that A64's (at least the Winchester core) jumps about 12-14C from idle to load. If you're idling at 40C then it should be fine depending on ambient temperatures. If you live in very hot regions it might be a problem in the summer for instance.

Well, everything seems to be cool now ( YES, pun was intended )

I have XP installed now, and after letting the computer idle in windows for a while, the CPU temp is only 32C. I am guessing the higher temp I was getting before was due to the fact that the side panel was not on. With the side panel (and its fan) on and running, the system is goin well.

This is my first encounter with an A64 (Newcastle 3800) as well. I'm seeing 42C idle with an XP90\retail fan and Cermique with Cool n Quiet disabled, and 51C running Prime tourture test for a few hours. It stays at 30C with CnQ enabled until I work it really hard. 47C is about my max temp in anything other than P95.

Yeah all those temps are fairly normal, I had the same concerns when I first got my new machine built, as it had been a while since I had put one together myself. (went on a streak of purchasing them from manufacturer's) Running an A64 Winne 3500+ at stock I idle at about 34-35C and I max out under P95 at about 51C. When running WoW I max out at abou 49C usually, was a little lower, like around 47C before I upgraded my video card from an x700 pro to an x800xl, so the increase is because of the greater heat dissapating from my heat sink on the card, which puts out a good little chunk of heat. Which just happens to float right up into the CPU. So don't worry about the temps you are getting, everything I have gotten from AMD and everyone else agrees, just don't let it get up at 60C and you will be fine.

Remember that when you are in BIOS, the CPU isn't idling. It's running at 50-60%.

These people complaining about 40C temps drive me nuts (not as much as those complaining about 30's--though that's more jealousy on my part). My A64 3000+ Newcastle ran a bit warm for me at first, or s I thought. It used to idle in the mid 40's and top out around 55C under load. Then I replaced the Speeze HSF with a Freezer 64 and learned about OC'ing and voltage. Saw that the default vCore was ranging from 1.55 to 1.57. I OC'ed 10% to 2200 Mhz, reduced the vCore t o1.45, and I'm now idling in the low 40's and top out around 50C (52C on warm days, with the house AC off).

Your temps are fine.
