I don't need anything faster than my 6800, but I may hit the backorder button on the Steel Legend if it's still available tomorrow. I'll do the paypal pay in 4, the wife will never know what happened.

Who gets to decide that?!?The 7800 XT is 23% faster but that's not enough if you already have a 6800.
Especially when a 6800 still brings good money…
Thanks for the heads up. TIme to get really sneaky.Oh, just remembered... backorders can only be placed with credit/debit cards, and not pay-in-four.
You ain't wrong. The Ferengi rules of acquisition are not part of my modus operandi though. I buy stuff that catches my fancy. The new AMD features are something I want to mess around with too.The 7800 XT is 23% faster but that's not enough if you already have a 6800.
Well, the buyer. And there are people who don't mind paying for relatively minor performance upgrades. For myself, I don't think I ever bought a video card that didn't offer +50% performance or more (though I held on the vid cards longer than CPUs - even when I had the money to do otherwise).Who gets to decide that?!?
The Gamer's Nexus review pointed that out - the 7800 XT is really the successor to the 6800, not the 6800 XT. It really just seems like a marketing gimmick.Even though Starfield has gotten a lukewarm reception, the free game makes the 7800 XT hard to pass up.
Really the only fault I have with it is that they should have just called it a 7800 since it just barely edges out the 6800 XT, but the price is nice, more so with the bundled game.
Although we wouldn't see this at $500 if AMD had fixed the problems so that this could get 3 GHz clocks, it would be a pretty crazy card. Possibly nipping at the heels of the 4070 Ti.
With already over 6 million players, it's their most successful launch ever.Even though Starfield has gotten a lukewarm reception

I agree. Seems like a case of marketers getting their mitts on stuff.- And as many have pointed out, in terms of MSRP and total silicon area, it's more like a 6700xt, in which case it's a solid upgrade. Should have just called it the 7700xt and the 7700 or something.
Have we already forgotten how hard electricity bills spiked in much of Europe last year? When has the cost of power ever increased by 50% in one year?

7700XT to get price cut in a few weeks. You heard it here first. At the least, by BF.
Or perhaps we'll see an RX 7700 non-XT, once the pesky RX 6700XT/6750XT sell through.
AMD's sales and marketing has been copying Nvidia's homework for years now. The 7700XT is priced badly to upsell the 7800XT. Looks like they are getting an A on the assignment; it's working.7700XT to get price cut in a few weeks. You heard it here first. At the least, by BF.
Methink that there wont be anymore GPUs using naming such as 6800 or 6700 without a XT moniker.- And as many have pointed out, in terms of MSRP and total silicon area, it's more like a 6700xt, in which case it's a solid upgrade. Should have just called it the 7700xt and the 7700 or something.

If the rumors about RDNA4 are true, I wonder if its not basically "fixed" RDNA3, maybe on a newer process.
FYI: I can use Honey to get Pay in 4 on Amazon. I am probably going with the Hellhound then. No hurry as shipping is 3 weeks out still.Oh, just remembered... backorders can only be placed with credit/debit cards, and not pay-in-four.
It wasn't just a rumour but an official AMD slide. There really was a graph showing 30% higher clockspeed or 1/2 power consumption compared to RDNA2.Sure, maybe it is. But the rumors about RDNA3 were about hitting 3 GHz clock speeds. Sometimes the rumors turn out to be true and other times not.

Someone chose the dense library instead of the performance, and when it was found out it was already too lateIt can hit those clocks, issue is that it needs excessive power to do so.
I can 100% believe the target was 3 GHz or so at current TDP levels and it was missed for whatever reason.
Also as Teska says AMD had their own slides that indicated 3Ghz +.
I can verify that my Nitro+ can boost to around 3 GHz or a bit above, at stock settings. But keep in mind this is a premium card with triple 8 pin connectors, and at times games may crash unless I underclock a bit. Maybe future drivers will help with a more stable boosting algorithm. It can hit those clocks, issue is that it needs excessive power to do so.
