Out of curiosity i got at AT article and he links a previous article about the 7860K where he state that AMD s coolers have been updated, the smaller one without heatpipe is surely for the 7470K or it s the previous offering, starting with the X4 845 they use the heat piped 95W cooler.

AMD 95W Thermal Solution

  • NEW AMD 10-7860K
  • AMD A8-7670K
  • AMD A8-7650K
  • AMD Athlon™ X4 870K

The 845 uses the regular 95W heatsink, with a new fan. Which happens to be much quieter then their older one.

Nice.

Are these new 95W heatpiped coolers the same as the old AM3+ 125W or something different?

EDIT: From the Tom's hardware Wraith Cooler review:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-wraith-cpu-cooler,4450.html

(AM3+ 125W. located on left definitely looks different than the 95W one you have pictured. Notice AM3 125W has four heatpipes and the 95W quiet solution has two heatpipes)

Both have 4 pipes, but only two are visible on a given side...

It definitely only has two heatpipes.

Its the bottom left one. The heatsink itself is identical to the stock FM2(+) used previously. Only the fan is different as you can see. It has a slightly different blade arrangement then the older ones. And a different colour. But that is just aesthetics.

I was actually referring to the heatpiped 95W cooler, but yeah it looks like the 870K (and new 860K) come with a taller cooler compared to what the old 860K (shown below) used to come with:

So taller, and with red fan instead of black fan.

No, not quite. It also has a large round copper center. Many don't know this because the pre-applied thermal compound covers it up. This is the same heatsink used for the early FX-4100 and FX-6100 cpus. Some even had a red fan back then.

pic here: http://images.ht4u.net/reviews/2011/amd_fx_6100_4100_review/amd_fx_boxed_cooler_95_watt.jpg

and here: http://www.dx.com/p/amd-fx-6100-95w...?utm_rid=28296997&utm_source=sas#.VwE62PkrKUl

I still have one from an FX-6100, but it had the black fan. I bought others that came with the red fan.

The copper center is very tall, and goes all the way up to just under the retention lever that holds the heatsink in place. It adds a lot of weight.

This review of an 845 shows the weight difference:

http://www.jagatoc.com/2016/03/hands-on-review-overclocking-athlon-x4-845-carrizo-murah-tanpa-igp/

379 grams vs 221 grams of the old aluminum only heatsink

You can't see the copper center in their pic because of the thermal compound, but the weight shows that it is there. The weight wouldn't be that different if it was just taller and only aluminum.

edit:

12 C drop in temp for the new heatsink vs old, with stock speed Athlon 845. Might see bigger drop with 860K/870K/880K and overclocking.

If im not mistaken this is the new 65W TDP heat-sink fan.

The new A10-7860K Low-Noise (65W TDP) comes with that heat-sink.

Here is the picture from a shop in UK for the Athlon x 4 845 listing:

http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/p/A...5GHz-Carrizo-Socket-FM2--Low-Noise_56943.html

And the reviews so far from the Newegg listing:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...tm_medium=affiliates&utm_source=afc-Skimlinks

Pros: In robocraft, a somewhat cpu intensive game, this cpu lands just in between my AMD A8 7600 and my core I5 4460, with all things considered it's impressive. all of 80% of an entry core I5 for the price of a Pentium.

Cons: heat sink isn't so special, just a heavier block of the normal aluminum.

Other Thoughts: An unlocked Carrizo CPU could be a true challenge to Intel haswell on a budget.

Pros: Seems as good as the 860K it replaced. Needed a bios update. It runs cooler by 5C. After a few days I'm very pleased with this chip..

Cons: The cooler (Quiet Cooler) Is a bigger piece of aluminum. I have a coolermaster TX3 running @ 32C

Other Thoughts: It's a good deal. Lives up to the info. about the same clock 3.5 @ lower TDP I do not game though. I do rips of bluray with it & it runs good at that. 1600MHZ DDR3

So it looks this one doesn't get the lower profile two heatpipe cooler of the A10-7860K.

The Athlon 845 is a 65W TDP Locked CPU, no reason to sell it with the 95W TDP heat-sink.

I believe it does come with a 95W heatsink, the tall copper cored one described in post #35.
