Make sure your termal paste makes good contact. A lot of heat problems are related to that. BTW my advice is to use some artic silver. My guess is when you do it properly with that paste it would make a difference of at least 10°C. If it is still not cool enough, consider installing a peltier device (read some info about it first)

That's about the idle temp for my 1G Athlon. If it is stable I wouldn't worry about it. The bios reading is not very accurate.

My 1.2Ghz at idle is 41C. With the case off is about 39 at idle. Under stress it gets to 46. I have a SuperOrb and an extra fan sucking in and blowing on the mobo to the side of the CPU. I think the 1.2 are 1.75 as well.

Guess I'm just used to lower temps. but then I keep the room cool and have a Tornado 2000 with a 38cfm fan on the chip.....

I got a 1.1 Ghz Tbird on an A7V and mine maxes out at 53C with 2 panaflo L1a case fans and a Taisol 733 HSF modded with a quieter panaflo fan. I used to max out at 47C with the stock heatsink fan and more powerful case fans, but the noise level was too much to keep it turned on overnight.

It does seem a bit high for a 900Mhz processor, but you should be within the specs.

I really think it is an Asus thing. It seems the vast majority of these threads are A7 motherboards. Mine is an A7Pro and my idle cpu temp with a fop 38 is about 50. With a standard hs/f it was about 53.

I have a fop 38, a huge case fan 108cfm, the largest midi tower I've ever seen, yet I still have these high temps.

I think it is the way the mombo does the temp. If it is stable don't worry. If it isn't stable for about 50 bucks you can add some fans and try out one of the new Volcano hs/f by thermaltake.

Aaron1982,

It isn't a problem. A7V bios 1004 and later(i'm guessing you are using one of these Bios') reads temps higher than other mb's. SO everyone here posting their temps, just ignore their temps. You can't even really compare your temps to other A7V temps, so you can throw out comparisons with other mb's.

Your temp is inline with how an A7V reads temps. Now, Are you using one of the Orb heatsinks?

SolarBear,

Same goes for you. A7-series boards tend to read "higher" than other mb's. Also, I wouldn't downgrade the FOP38 to the Volcano.

yeah.. my A7V, tbird 900 combo tells me 58c.. or it used to.. that was with the stock hsf and one case fan.. I got two more case fans and it's now 53.. this is with the asus probe software.. the bios says ten degrees less.. and sandra says what the bios is saying.. it's the thermistor, it ain't accurate.. but mine is stable so I figure it's okay..

I have a 900Mhz T-Bird and it was running in the 50s for me too on the desktop! Crashing all over the place too. My heatsink was always cold. It turns out the paste I had sucked, so I got better thermal grease(the grey stuff in the syringe) from Plycon and I also bought a delta 6800RPM fan and now I sit around 40 on the desktop and after 5 loops of 3dmark2000 Im up around 44. So check your contact, have good grease and a good heatsink/fan. I have an Aplha heatsink and as I said, a delta fan. I like the Alpha a lot, Ive also heard the golden orb is good, or the bigger one, the super orb(?). Just some thoughts.
good luck,
-doug

dmw16,

A7Vs and their series of boards read in hte 50s normally. Also, the Orb heatsinks are not good heatsinks for Socket-A use, both in performance adn that they aren't approved by AMD for use.

Thanks for your info on the a7 mombos. I was coming to this conclusion but couldn't find anything to support it. It seemed whenever someone had a temp problem that could not be fixed it was with one of these mombos.

I wasn't planning on downgrading my hs/f. Only having used the fop I could not reccommend the noise to others. It does lower the temps down about 5C though.
