I noticed not much talk about this processor (or this processor line) and, well, I have one. It's a pretty amazing little processor. I've got my Antec 920 Kuhler on it and wow. The overclocking is amazing.

Before, I was all about the number of cores and such, but really this quad-core with my Agility III SSD, I see no difference then on my friends i7 Sandy Bridge.

So, I posted this to see what everyone thought about these cards.

BTW, I use this as my new gaming rig with my Radeon HD R6950 Twin Frozr III and it preforms amazingly, especially considering the price.

These cards? You mean APUs?

Why are you using an APU with a 6950? If you arent crossfiring an APU, dont you think the iGPU is somewhat worthless?

5800K without using the IGP is not the best option for the money, even the 4300 offers slightly higher gaming performance for $10 less, and the 6300 only costs $10 more.

there has been many topics and discussions here about trinity, the 5800k....

And if you're really on a budget, there is the Athlon X4 750K.

Why are you using an APU(2500K) with HD6870 ??

With the FM2 you can upgrade to Richland and Kaveri(SteamRoller), also power consumption is lower with the Quad core APUs vs AM3+ CPUs.

if you can find one...

I can send you one, we have them in stock here in Greece.

You were saying gentlemen...?

No, joking aside, it seems impossible to find in the US. Problem is that for the same price you can get a G2120, but you loose overclocking and AVX. And from what I'm hearing the 750K is quite the overclocker, reaching 5800K performance easily. Even with the stock cooler...

Not to mention, 2 hardware threads is a recipe for stuttering on modern engines.

I just parted out my 2500k @ 4.5GHz system and downgraded to the 5800k A10... mostly because I usually play with higher end Stuff I don't need. (I only light game on my TV 1-2 hours a week) and I had the urge to try something different.

Very happy so far.

I use a 50" 1360x768 Plasma TV and it handles pretty much every game I throw at it with Medium to High details with non demanding games on High/Ultra. I'm fine as long as its 35FPS or higher as I dont play FPS much. I paid $165 shipped for the CPU/Motherboard combo.

As far as my everyday use with this PC, I notice no difference other than gaming.

What do you mean?. The 750K is a 2 module design, basically a 5800K minus the iGPU (with lower default clockspeed obviously).

I meant that the 750k is more futureproof than a Pentium, as it has 4 threads vs Pentium's 2.

750K can OC to ~4.5-4.6Ghz on air cooling, relatively easy(multiplier+vcore bump). It's awesome value for peanuts money .

you don't really have an option for the i5, there is nothing else without the IGP, cheaper and with similar characteristics, as for the 5800K you do have options,

I have seen talks about FM2+ or FM3 already, FM1 still leave me with some doubts about what AMD is trying to do, but also Richland, I'm not sure if it's really a improvement for CPU performance? anyway, with AM3+ you can upgrade to 6-8 core CPUs...

power usage under load looks almost the same

idle is lower but... still, 4300 is a little bit faster and cheaper for gaming.
but I think the 6300 is a more interesting option.

the 740 or 750K are hard to find in most places, and I thought it would be a little bit cheaper than $105.

5600K is what? $110?

Yeah no point spending 105 on a 750K when you can get the 5600K on sale for $99 as it should overclock the same, come with a decent GPU and have better resale value.

Those US prices are totally out of whack! In the UK a 5600K is £86, and the 750K is £63, making it a genuine bargain.

If only they could make an unlocked I5 without the IGP, that would be cool. They could call it the 2550K or something.

Europe too. 750K is around 22euros cheaper than 5600K,making it a clear choice for those who need cheap FM2 socket CPU with no iGPU.

they did release one, many months later and with limited availability... so it not really an option.

Why isn't it an APU exactly? It has integrated GPU on the same die,it can run accelerated OpenCL code on it. You can choose not to call it "APU" but it is analogous product to AMD's x86+GPU on the same die. Granted it has more x86 performance than 2M/4T Trinity but at the same time it has much lower iGPU performance. It's a trade off.
