I almost built a Richland system today because I was having an issue with my current PC. What I originally though was electrostatic discharge turned out just to be a broken power switch

While I was "shopping" I was going to go with an mATX system in a slim case and perhaps later on I would add a slim Radeon 7750. Honestly I'm surprised you didn't go with a slim system. Was expansion a concern? With Kaveri around the corner, I would be tentative to go with an FM2 system unless I was desperate, like I was today.

I wish half-height PCIE SSDs were a common sight. Would be nice for slim systems. With all the benefits of PCIE, I'm pretty much going to go that route when I actually decide to fork over the money for an SSD.

Also, if GPGPU on APU based consoles this new gen actually takes off, I really hope the PC APU space actually benefits, in which case your Richland system might prove to be quite nice to have as a gaming specific machine.

Marginal. They basically tweaked power efficiency and then raised the clock speed about 10%, which now has it at a nearly identical power draw to the 5800K with slightly better performance. The GPU is identical though and the slight clock speed bump it got didn't translate into any real world gains.

They seem to overclock significantly better than Trinity, though.

Luxmark is what I meant, sorry. I'm used to using Luxrender which is where LuxMark came from.

CPU at 4400MHz no Turbo, iGPU at default 844MHz. Memory 2133MHz 11-12-11, Catalyst 13.6 on Windows 8 Pro 64Bit.

LuxMark v2.0 64bit
Scene : Sala Medium Benchmark 448K triangles

Mode : CPU + GPU

Mode : GPU only

Mode : CPU only

~448

What's your power at the wall with that? And how much fruit does the gpu bare when you overclock it?

I'm pulling 157w peak for this:

iGPU is at 1750MHz.

considering it's just like Trinity (this CPU is $150, for $190 you can buy a quad core haswell with HD 4600), the only thing that impressed me on the reviews was overclocking, any luck getting to 5GHz easily like in many reviews?

as a reference, my good old i3 2100 scores 217 as a CPU only on luxmark (IGP does not support OpenCL, and I'm not using it anyway, but the HD2500 from Ivy i3 is probably around 120-150 with the newer drivers)

Ill check about the power in the afternoon but the current setup is with a cheapo PSU with less than 75% efficiency. I will rerun the test with the iGPU at 1013MHz to see whats the performance difference.
Can you run the test with the iGPU only at default speed ??

Stock GPU

HD4600 @ 1,750MHz 46% OC

~40% scaling, not too shabby actually.

iGPU at 1013MHz, power at wall around 107-110W with spikes at 116-123W and maximum recorded at 126W.

Figured I'd throw my Trinity into the mix;

I've underclocked/volted the CPU by a good bit down to 3.2GHz and 1.1v, Turbo disabled. But I've run the IGP up from 800MHz up to 1169MHz and have the northbridge to 2200MHz.

CPU + IGP (~107w from the wall, no spikes)

IGP only (~86w from the wall, no spikes)

CPU only (~76w from the wall, no spikes)

New system build that i will be testing. I will run synthetic and real world benchmarks. Meaning stuff like PCMark, 3DMark, CineBench, Games Etc. If you want you can suggest some benchmark or games if you want. Will be using the onboard IGP and then a HD 7870. Specs can be found below. Will also be running the CPU slightly OC'd

• AMD A10-6800K APU
• FM2 A85X motherboard
• 2x4 AMD Radeon™ RP1866 Performance Memory
• Fractal Arc Midi R2 Case
• Fractal Tesla R2 650W Power Supply Unit
• Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 2.5" 60GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive
• LG 24X DVD Burner
• Windows 7 OS Disc

Would it have killed you to mention this is a kit shipped by AMD as part of their Test Drive program? Assuming that is what it is (CPU is in same non-retail box): http://northamericaninfluencer.amd.com/Post/AMDtestdrive/1389b272-66c8-4ae1-a818-f620c82f9e83

IMO AMD Test Drive people should be sure to signature that point, much like Nvidia's Focus Group members.

The Advocacy program doesn't require disclosure on any level, if that's what this is.

Yes, but consideration doesn't require distinct rules. It's courtesy to let people know you are talking about something you received as a promotion/gift/part of a job. Rather than pointing to a "rule" about it you point out it's discourteous as I have done.

I'm not the type of person to give in to "meh, that's just the way it is" type of thinking.

Balla seems to be trying to point out that the Advocacy program is purposely stealthy. Not requiring disclosure backs this up. There could be some repercussions down the road due to this. Legal repercussions. FTC involvement perhaps. I dunno.

that explains the choice of parts,

I had the impression he payed for the hardware considering this reply

again, what about overclocking results?

Due to reoccurring problems I will be using a discrete GPU instead of the IGP of the A10-6800K

I never ran luxmark was interested to see how the 260 would score.

Not vary good,I dunno if its because its open cl1.1 or if it just wasn't designed for opencl.
