Someone here must work for AMD, please get them to tell me why they dont put 15 watt Kabini products into 11.6 inch laptops?

Also completely MIA in 13.3 and 14 inch, meanwhile HP has had an Intel based 14 inch Chromebook for $300 for a couple of years now. I'm about to grab a $199 Acer C710-2834, but I'd happily consider a A4-5000 based system in the $250-300 range if it had a 11.6-14 inch screen $350 if it has to have Windows on it.

I really dont get why AMD punts their lower end Kabini SKUs so heavily. The problem is that I think 1GHz Jaguar CPUs are just a little too slow.

Slow and expensive, no wonder it's not being the OEM's preferred bundle.

I think the A4-5000 is fast enough for the <$400 none touch enabled 11.6-14 inch notebooks I'm referring to. Who knows on cost to OEMs, it's almost never list price, but they definitely aren't showing up in the better balanced budget configurations.

even with amds lower prices, $200-249 for a netbook spells a 1366x768 tn panel, 160GB hdd, 30Whr battery and uber cheap plastic.

$299-349 with a touch panel on that tn display, 64GB ssd/320GB hdd and a 40WHr batter sounds more compelling.

You need to accept that A4-1200 and A4-1250 belongs only to very cheap low end devices, OEM cant expect us to pay more than 350 (and thats already very very expensive) for a A4-1250/1200, no matter how good other things are, add $20 more and put a quad Temash or a Kabini in there.

Acer C710-2834 with a Celeron 1007U is $199.99, I find it hard to believe Acer couldn't put an A4-5000 in a very similar if not the same chassis and put it out for $250-300 even with Windows.

I believe high prices are due to low availability, it reminds me of early Llano and Trinity, both were very expensive when they first released and hard to get.

Ahh yes, we have this one here in Greece too. I can tell you that my first reaction when i saw the price was ....... *&^%^$$%$&%*((*
Yes it is very slim and nice but WTF, i can buy an i5 for less

Samsung laptops have a nice quality. I have a XE700T1C-A02NL laptop/tablet(i5-3317U), but it does not feel very snappy. So I guess the Kabini@1.4Ghz will have a better experience index. Samsung won't make a laptop for this price that is not ok enough. My XE700T1C-A02NL was a bit too expensive with the slow i5.

Sorry to say, but I think an i5 will blow a 1.4 Kabini out the water performance wise. If it feels sluggish, either you need an SSD or you have too much bloatware.

It uses a mSata SSD, there is no place for anything else. Its installed with a fresh windows 8.1. It just feels slow in everything.
Harddisk is now a Crucial 256Gb mSata SSD.

Yea, I agree. The only way I think that the i5 could feel slower is if it is throttling badly or if the particlar program he is using is very gpu intensive.

Those prices are outrageous. I've seen tons of core i3/i5 models on slickdeals for around the 600$ mark, why would anyone get a jaguar model for the same price range?

Just surfing, nothing special.
Are you sure the system works as it's supposed to (turbo enabled, not throttling)? The i5-3317U has a turbo of 2.6 GHz, it will be about 2x faster than any Kabini for lightly threaded workloads.

This model is targeting the ultrabook crowd, slim, lightweight, nice design, ssd etc.

No throttling going on, I checked. In the notebook tab you can see I had an Acer laptop of a custommer, a V5-572P, which had an i3-3217U CPU which was really as slow as a turtle. Even 1 off my old laptops with an AthlonII@2,2Ghz was snappier then that. So I doubt really a Kabini will be less snappy.
Samsung is not crazy bringing out an expensive laptop(with a Kabini) if they are not sure it would sell. BTW now playing with an Asus K95V. This feels ok. CPU is an i7-3630QM. Just installed 8.1 on it. Its still not as snappy as my 2 powerful desktops but he.............its a laptop.

Its obviously you got an issue that is not related to CPU performance. Since the 3217U is clearly the fastest of the lot. Kabini is simply a turd slow CPU.

Yeah, it will be. A Kabini will be slower than an Athlon and slower than an i3 and slower than an i5.

still has higher ipc than arm a15 and atom, which are it primary competitors.

Well yes, but that is not what we are talking about here. An i3 or an i5 is simply faster than a Jaguar, no question about it.

I still want to buy a Jaguar laptop, but I know it is slower than an i3 or an i5.
