Lol I remember that one...but I guess the situations are reversed nowadays

It's funny how quickly roles can reverse and how what a company feels sets theirs apart from another as a reason to buy their product no longer matters just a generation later.

Yes I do, actually. Even if just a little bit of time and money, it was still thrown in. I'd rather have seen them madk a slightly more serious commercial (not too serious, but not ultra cheese), or at least one with better production values like 3dfx's old commercials if I was going to actually spend the time at all to do something like this. But again, I think with their long-standing issues with drivers (serious performance being held back when GCN was initially released, CFX utterly broken for years) and their lethargic response to Nvidia's initial Kepler onslaught, they shouldn't be wasting time or money (however insignificant you might think it is) on a cheese fest commercial. It's doing noting to promote their image in a positive manner, and especially when considering their place with respect to performance vs. Nvidia right now, they're significantly behind thus leaving them very little (nothing) to brag about.

3dfx had the best commercials...I miss those days.

Those 3DFX are [redacted] godlike.

Where the [redacted] is chip producers marketing departments from that era?

The fixer is cringe worthingly bad - i'm shocked honestly.
This is going to shoot themselves in the foot even more with the enthusiast crowd.

Arent' we supposed to be the ones that buy the high margin chips?

Collector is actually alright - but fixer is ugh.

Profanity is not allowed in the technical forums.

^Would a cheesy commercial really stop you from buying a good product? Really? This kind of thing shouldn't enter into purchasing decisions, especially for the informed buyer.

OMG that fixer one is definitely cringe-worthy. And the sledgehammer part gives me a visual of most AMD fans on the net. Thanks!

No, because I work for my cash and don't care what marketing departments say.

I thought the "Fixer" was slightly funny.

Hey, at least AMD's marketing team is *making the effort*. Which is more than I can say for them in previous years.

The informed buyer knows the situation in the market - and AMD is in trouble here.

That's a fact -there's several issues looking at from a no holds barred point - and also in some of the classes value.

(Atleast specially since 7xx launch).

This is cringe worthy - to try "funny attack" the competition.
If it was a toss up - from perf\price vs perf\feature at my required absolute perf point - this would make me go in the other direction.

Did AMD hire the same idiots who made the XFX commercials or something? These kinds of commercials do not even register with most people--who are blissfully unaware of the enmity between AMD/NVDA. Dear AMD: don't spend money on stupid ads like this, instead, cut your prices some more.

Ask yourself this question in another form.

Would a great commercial really persuade you to by a crappy product?

Thilan, really.

AMD apparently thinks that commercials and advertising are influential, as does every other company in the world.

They have an allowance for marketing and an allowance for the driver team. You can't just take money away from one department to fund another. If they have no marketing then they would be much worse off. At least they have something to gain momentum.

I doubt the ad would influence most posters on this forum. I also doubt it cost much at all to produce. The real cost will be air time. With Nvidia releasing the GTX760 I think it might be a good idea for AMD to start cranking up their attack.

I bought my 7970 because offered similar performance to a 680 for less money, and had free games.

I tune out marketing noise like these inane commercials, and company fan posts.
