AMD and 13333 memory problems

Is there a problem with AM3 based motherboards and being able to use memory faster than 1333? Looking at building a system for someone with a M4A87TD EVO and they want either 8GB or 16GB of memory on board. Just wondering if I use a AMD X4 or X6 if I will be restricted to 1333 memory speed as the upper limit.

I don't know the answer to your question, but one could theorize that lower memory speeds would bring greater compatiblity and/or stability when maxing out boards on RAM.

Just wondering: What do they need all that memory for on a desktop-class board?

I haven't used that board, but, no, you aren't restricted, since it seems it also supports faster RAM if you o/c it.
Since you o/c it, then the probability of your board being stable goes a bit down.

I doubt you would notice the difference in faster memory, in anything but benchmarks, unless you are using very demanding programs.

For 16+GB RAM, it is also best to go with ECC RAM, and make sure it is supported via their memory QVL. (All this assumes that, that board supports ECC)

I am wondering the same thing. They probably only need 4GB of RAM or perhaps if they get into light gaming 8GB,

If they don't have some kind of specific need for it, 16GB of RAM will be a total waste. Even 8GB will be almost always wasted (unless they're gaming with something that needs lotso memory or doing some kind of editing work). I'd rather have 4GB at faster memory speeds than 8GB or 16GB at slower speeds.

Thing is there is always something new coming down the pipe. How long has bulldozer been rumored to be coming? Then of course one has to wait for reviews of all the motherboards to show up.

True. But if the rumors are true, BD launch is going to be in June. Given the closeness of even the end of June, if they can wait, wouldn't it make sense to see what's up with it?

If the pricing leak is true the cheapest BD CPU at launch will be ~$190. Depending on budget that may not be acceptable. Plus no pricing info on mobos. What's the budget for this build anyway? If you don't already have the mobo, a SB build may be a smarter choice.

Ya a SandyBridge may be option would have to price out a mb and cpu.
