Yes the Semprons are rebadged Athlon XPs, but they use a different naming scheme on each, observe.Originally posted by: MeCheap
I've read that the semprons are rebadged athlonXPs so wouldnt this mean that a sempron 2800+ out performed the AthlonXP 2700+
btw. they're both the same price!
The Athlon XP will be noticeably faster than the Pentium 4. You're getting a decent motherboard with the Athlon and probably crap with the P4. I'd save the money and get the Athlon.Originally posted by: MeCheap
Wow. Well if thats the case. Should I go for a Pentium 4 2.4 GHZ (1MB cache, 533 MHZ) bare CPU with MOBO for $109. Thats 10 dollars more than the athlonXP 2700+. This my first time buildiing a comp. Thanks for the info MDE
They're essentially the same CPU, but the Sempron is a bit slower. You could compare the Sempron 2800+ to an Athlon XP 2600+. Both would be faster than the P4 you are now considering.Originally posted by: MeCheap
from tom's hardware guide it the sempron also runs at 333Mhz FSB but with less with L1 128kb k2 256kb running at 2.0 Ghz
