I'm waiting on the PCI-E boards to start showing up before I build my new system. Nforce 4 should be out by the end of the month.

ya this processor looks to be the next celeron 300A based on the AT article showing a fat 40% overclock.
icing on the cake:
Free NEWEGG BEACH TOWEL 100% COTTON when you buy

All the ladies will think you are a pimp at the beach with that sucker!

Great, but you need to spend like $300 for the memory, that 50% more than on the CPU ! This seems to contradict the whole notion of value overclocking.
And btw, Fry's has the A64 3000+ Newcastle (Soceket 754, 2GHz, 512KB L2) with MSI mobo for $190 this weekend. It doesn't have dual channel, and will overclock to only about 2.4GHz, but it's a lot cheaper.

When you get the towel, do you use before washing it first ?

Why would you need to fork over for new memory, user1234? Does on on-chip memory controller mean that you can't run memory asynchronously with FSB?

Watch out, in store the computer says the board is an ECS with some SiS chipset. Then they have a sign saying a combo with the MSI is $259. I pointed out that the ad in the paper had a MSI logo. They panicked for a few seconds then said I can buy with MSI combo and they would drop $70 off the price. The great thing was, the board was a NF3-250! So I got a retail A64 3000+ and MSi K8N Neo for $189, which, IMO is a better deal than Newegg, unless you already have a 939 motherboard.

I agree, they have to give an MSI board as shown in the ad, wether it's the K8T or K8N. This is a really good deal (at fry's) as K8N alone is $100, and A64 3000+ (NC) is more $150 I think. Thanks for the warning.

Corsair TWINX low latency is around $250 from Outpost.
NewEgg had a deal last week on Patriot Data Products low latency for about $150.

This is for 1GB ( 2x512MB ) PC3200.

Overclocking by unlocking the multiplier is "cheap overclocking". Overclocking by increasing the
bus speed is more expensive since you need faster memory, but then the entire system is faster.

Yean, Newegg had a deal last week, as in no longer available. I think it is around $198 now.

Yes, that's why I said "had" rather than "has". Anyone who frequents NewEgg's site knows they
have a lot of 1 day sales. Sorry if my post got you all hot and bothered... go have a beer.

The "Next 300A" was the 600C. Overclocked that baby to 928MHz -- +56.3% ! Still got one running here on an Abit BH6 for the gkids to play their games --- and keep them off my rig : )

It's sounding like you guys don't quite know your stuff when it comes to A64 overclocking. With A64, you can overclock the FSB without significantly changing the FSB your RAM runs at. Basically, by default you're at 200MHz. Well, you can up the FSB to 266MHz and keep running your RAM at 200MHz. And since the memory controller is on the CPU, you're not going to see the performance hit you would see if you did that with an Athlon XP. With an A64, you would basically see the performance of a faster CPU and same RAM. With an Athlon XP, you would see slower RAM and faster CPU (which may or may not be better).

Yeah, it's available at other places besides newegg, and costs less. Newegg is as usual trying to gouge on new items. But some people, like the OP, have become so blinded they don't even bother to look elsewhere. Newegg could easily sell it for cheaper than most other sites, but they intentionally try to set the price as high as possible, because a regular fixed profit margin is not enough for them. And the only reason they continue to be in business with this policy, is because of people that think newegg is so great because they got their shipment one day early (yippie !!!), but I guess these people overlook the 15% restocking.

Anyone want to buy a Prescott 2.8?

Thanks for the tip on the Monarch source, bought it with an Asus A8V rev2. I've been watching the deals on the 754's but couldn't pass this up with the overclocks reported by Anand.
