This is insane, you can almost get this with a motherboard for $100.

I've been on an Opteron 165 since they came out, and really want to try out a Core2Duo, but the motherboard pricing is what's stopping me now. Intel, with all it's pull, cant get me something comparable to a 965P for under $100, but solid AMD overclocking boards have been available for around $70 for the past few generations. Does such a thing exist for Intel that someone can point me to?

I totally agree. If there were awesome overclocking mobos like my MSI neo2 pt where i can get over 2.9 ghz out of my 2.0 opty 146 I would be tempted since i see no point in upgrading my ddr to 2x1 gig at this point. or upgrading to a pci-e board for my 939 either. As for most people, I would think that Crysis might twist my arm enough to build a new rig.

I'm runnning this CPU with a TForce 550 mobo and ACF 64 Pro cooler and right now I'm testing @ 2.8GHz. This is hardly the fastest CPU in the world but if if you don't need the absolute best performance this is amazing. For me all I do is play games so this is perfect. With current prices you can (like I did) get a good CPU + motherboard + RAM for just over $200. A year ago I paid $170 for an Opteron 144

You can get it with an ECS Geforce6100 chipset board for $99.99 plus shipping. However, you can't use a combo deal with the coupon code. That ECS board can be overclocked to around 250MHz HTT using Clockgen, and some have gotten closer to 285MHz HTT out of it.

According to the reviews, overclocking potential is rather low. Besides, performance is somewhat lacking even with an external PCI-E card.

Price-wise though, this is really, really tempting. How would this internal card compare to my 9800 non-pro?

My MSI K9N Platinum has dropped a lot in price since I bought it last June, and I must say it's been a great OCing board. Will boot at over 290 HTT on my 3500+ AM2 with the 11x multi (about 3.2 GHz)...I've been running it for a year at 255HTTx11 (2.8 GHz) with absolutely zero problems. Chipset does get hot, but should be ok if you have a well ventilated case.
