I thought Manchester had 512kb L2 cach (2x256) whereas Toledo has 1MB cach (2x512).

toledos has 2 x 1mb cache, mancherters have 2 x 512mb.

but there are toledos like the 4200 that have half the cache disabled.

Wow, the die size on that chip must be larger than a dinner plate!

I'm currently running an FX-55 that I got last year from the Egg for $119 on a crazy sale, would I see any difference with this X2 chip over the FX-55 (for the better I mean) or have I maxed out the socket 939?

Got my Manchester core 4200 at 2.5 right now - same speed as my old 3700 single core was running at. I'll crank it up further over the weekend when I have time to play around so far.

BTW, socket is the same as the OP 165.

How far did you get?

I have a 1.8GHz Winchester single core, looks like a good upgrade.

Thanks

Perhaps, Just perhaps, when you're losing $500M/quarter and your dealers are telling you their's demand for S939 CPU's and you have the 90nm capacity . . . then you dig out the old recipe and make some S939 X2's!!!

Stranger things have happened.

this is exactly what i bought it for. my brother has a winchester 939 3000+ and i figure seeing as that was the slowest 939 non sempron, he would get a good year at least out of a $60 upgrade...

i just wish pc3200 was as cheap as ddr2 now and he'd be all set for a year or more.

i'm able to run my 4200+ at 2.6ghz, stock voltage. it gets up to 2.8, but at 1.45V. unfortunately, my hsf isn't good enough to keep it running at that speed.

Wanted to post a small update regarding the chip I received. Runs fine at 10.5 x 250 = 2.625 Ghz @ 1.40 volts. Passed Prime for several hours with a max temp of 48C (using XP120 cooler with slow fan). 11 x 250 was a no go - Prime errors although it worked fine for surfing and such. I think I'm just going to stand pat at 2.65 for now, it's a nice upgrade from a single core at 2.5. Trying to resist the temptation to upgrade my entire system for a while longer.

boo for newegg using UUPS!
sometimes ok,
sometimes misrouted/late (this order),
sometimes never arrives at all (last time I ordered Newegg, UUUPS claimed delivery, but it never was delivered & they had to reship).

remember the good ol days when Newegg used FedEx? alas.
