Well, I just updated the BIOs in my Abit AV8, and put my other X2 in it, and it also works with no re-install. I did however have to manually set the computer type to multi-processor. I am not sure I believe the temp readings on it, so I didn't go over 1.4v, and at 2477 it still says 65c full load ! (posted in 2 threads since this applies to both)

I know I have been away all weekend, but I just got some fast results......2.7Ghz@300MhzX9. My vcore is at 1.29-1.31v and it amazes me it is running this speed at this voltage!!! By the way my memory timings are 2.5-4-3-6. This is with the stock retail AMD cooler.

very nice....How are the temps...do you have room to go for 2.8-2.9ghz with some vcore???

Temp Idle - 38C Load - 49C?? something honestly haven't checked yet.

Yes, I honestly believe I have room for 2.8-2.9

This was a sloppy 30 minute OC attempt and it has been successful thus far.

It's a 0518 CPU by the way.

I dont' understand what I'm doing wrong with my 4800+. I haven't overclocked yet but I'm only hitting 14000 with 3dmark01 se. I have a 6800 ultra, a8n-sli premium, 2gig of cosair xml pro (2, 2, 2,5) ram. This is on a fresh xp sp1 install with all the security updates. The video drivers are the latest 77.72. How are some people getting 28000 & 31000 for 3dmark01 se?

You need to install chipset drivers.

Nice results guys! I wish I had the $1500 or so it would take to get me one of these (and a system to run it right).

I did install the chipset drivers from the MB cd that it came with. Just in case though I'll download the newest chipset drivers online and see if that helps. Don't know if this would matter but I only have direct x 9.1 installed. I don't know if 3dmark01 se uses 8.0?

How would I be able to tell? I know when I'm in task manager I have 2 cpu usage history. Any info is definitely appreciated. First time playing around with dual cores. Also, the bios recognizes it. My board came with the latest bios version already flashed.

I remember someone on this board posted some instructions on getting the x2 to be recognized in XP. Can't seem to find it though;(

Its easy, if it doesn;t do it by itself, go to control panel, system device manager. The where the computer category is, expand the +. If it says uniprocessor, , then right click, properties, change driver, specify all compatable, and choose multiprocessor. Works for Win2k, and it won;t auto detect, even with good bios. XP did it for my without changing after good bios.

Well... I did some overclocking. Not much yet but here is where I am at so far. It runs about 35/36 degrees C with fan turned all the way down and about 34 with the panaflo blowing some 100+ cfm across it. Never gets above 47 degrees C under full load. Also kept to a modest voltage of 1.375 in the bios (don't want to do anything stupid yet.. lol). Keep in mind this is my first attempt at overclocking.

Well my update on my overclocking adventure:

I know the CPU has 2.7GHz written all over it because it passes dual Prime95 Small FFTs for 24 hours without a problem.

But when I switched to Large FFTs, I got errors, usually after 8 or 9 hours. I was also getting errors in dual SPI 32M. There could be two reasons for this: the memory isn't up to snuff or the HTT/Memory Controller on the CPU isn't up to snuff.

It's an annoying tick of mine, but I need to know if the CPU is absolutely stable in EVERYTHING.

So what I've done is lowered the HTT speed from 300x9 to 270x10. That made it stable in dual SPI 32M. It was still erroring out in dual Large FFTs, so I increased my VDIMM from 2.7V to 2.8V. Right now I'm 12 hours into dual Large FFTs.

Load temps for the CPU are between 60C and 65C depending on the ambient.

DAMN THAT IS HOT!! I know I would be right up there with you on my CPU. I am just curious, those of you who are using TCCD memory "-3" bioses which is the best for you? There are 4 now that are out the 510-3, 618-3, 623-3, adn the 702-3. I have yet to find a stable OC above 2.6Ghz. I figure I need to see which bios is the most compatible with OCing......Right now I plan on experimenting with the 623-3. Alright time to go to the Taste of Chicago! Later.

I'd say damn the torpedos full speed ahead
I've been on enough IEEE committies with these large companies
If there are proposals for something they do not want progress will be Glacial
The motherboard vendors should not be bothered by no jedec support
Does jedec "support" or even acknowledge all of DFI's memory options?
If the memory vendors do not have the ability to support the multiple spd's they could put the default timings for memory bus speeds above ddr 400 in their data sheets
I would think that custom bios would shortly appear for the popular memory modules

Oh my- they are allready!

Isn't max loaded spec temp 65C for that cpu?

Think 65c is the max. I just got my X2 4400+ set up. Running @ 2.62 (237x11) 1:1 1.475vcore, 29C idle and 36C full load.(water cooled with 1/2" TDX block) Any higher for me would require different ram timings. For anyone wanting 2gigs of ram for BF2 but still want 1T and decent oc'ing get the corsair kit. Anyway... I love this X2! Got it from newegg the first day theyhad it in stock for $655(retail). Three days later it went up to $719!

Here is my rig so far...

X2 4400+ @ 2.62ghz
Asus A8N SLI DEL
evga 7800gtx stock
2gig corsair twinx2048 @ 474mhz, 2.5-3-3-6 1T 1:1 Awesome for 1gig sticks
2x Maxtor 250gb 16mb cache hd's raid 0(on the way) 1 of my samungs just died
Audigy 2 ZS/ Klipsch 5.1 Ultra's

Good luck to all with your new X2's

Actually I believe the max surface temperature is 65C for these CPUs. But I think its good for it. If not, I'll have a toasted X2 for my next keychain.
