I don;t see how the 4800 X2 could loose in cinebench, unless they disabled the multithread capability.

they must have, there's no other explanation for the 4800+ losing to the other 3 processors

ANybody else beginning to notice AMD's pricing on their new chips? Granted they are second to none in performance at the moment, but they are pulling away from their core values of being the best bang for the buck it seems. As a long time AMD supporter, and backer/stock holder even I would very much like to see them undercutting intel even as they continue to kick their ass for the time being.

I just feel a little abused and as a person without unlimited funds to buy their stuff, I would love to upgrade my setup soon, but prices for what I want/need are just too high to justify the upgrade right now. PLEASE AMD don't get cocky, throwing your loyalists a bone every now and again is a great way to retain happy and returning customers, as well as gain some new ones in the process. I only hope this general message reaches them before they do something stupid.

Why would anyone want one of these? The future is multi-core both for apps and games, and the X2 is out and each core is nearly as fast as an FX57. The only reason I can possibly see for one of these is to be able to play todays (single threaded) games at higher fps - but if the X2 is already giving you > 100fps who cares if the FX57 can give you 120?

Um. They have to make money man. It takes lotsa $$$ to research all this crap, and to build new fabs, etc.

Yes the future is multi-core apps and games, but it's not like developers are going to start releasing multi-core apps/games immediately. For example, how many 64-bit apps/games are there? And how long has 64-bit processors been available? And multi-core code involves more work and you're cutting maket share to the upper crust of desktop PC enthusiasts, so developers have little incentive to jump right into muti-core desktop apps/games right now.

Yes, Xbox 360 could possibly excelerate multi-core games, but again, it takes more work, which means more development time. Plus Xbox 360 will take time for large market adoption, so developers again are in no hurry to invest in multi-core games right now. Most pundits are talking Q4 2006 before they start trickling out, at the very earliest.

Hmmm "2.8GHz on a 90nm chip, SSE3 enabled" for... $1,031!!

My Venice 3000+ runs at 2.8GHz on a 90nm chip, SSE3 enabled for...$147.

You do the math. Thanks AMD!

On stock retail cooling too, absolutely beautiful..

Don't forget the 1MB cache you get with the FX series as apposed to 512K cache w/Venice. Plus, you should easily be able to get a 7% o/c (3GHz) out of the FX-57.

But I'm being facetious, 200MHz + 512K cache is obviously not worth nearly a $900 price premium. :Q

How the hell did you manage to get your system stable on air cooling... with regular HS/F ???

Whats temps are you getting? 60 celcius in idle ?

1.6 volts. It's stable running Prime95 small FFT torture 24/7, however I still can't get my RAM to run alongside with it even at DDR333 (which is most likely a vdimm issue on my Gigabyte K8NS which is going back to newegg tomorrow to replaced by a MSI K8N Neo4). So with the chip 2700-2800mhz, the RAM is running at DDR200.. Hopefully the new board will make them run together at full speed (the RAM can handle 230mhz 1:1).

My case readings (there are 3) show around 35-40C. What program will let me check the temperature readings from the BIOS/CPU?

You should try Large FFT Prime95 testing. I doubt you can keep it at 2.8 on air. But if you do,

I agree, though since my weakness is the vdimm on this mobo, I don't trust any tests that incorporate RAM. We'll wait and see how things go with the Neo4, I'm perfectly happy with 2.7, 50% overclock is plenty.

Any recs on the BIOS/CPU temperature monitor software? I thought CPU-Z would have that info but it doesn't. What's that standard app that everyone uses?

Obviously this is not worth it unless you like paying an additional 213.4% for a 27.3% Increase in clock frequency over the Athlon 64 3700+. But for those who wants the best, this is it. At least for single core.
