Source.

Of course, i3 is still the better processor overall, but note the power consumption in the last chart and considering the price, the new Trinity based processor is not a bad buy at all. Any hard-core AMD fan got it yet, there could be some longevity in FM2.

all I have to say is the name scheme is stupid

II X4? Makes me thing of AMD Phenom.

When I think of Athlon I think of my 3600+ or 4400+.

A small observation: 750K X4 is 3.4Ghz/4Ghz stock/turbo 2M part with unlocked multiplier. It OCs to ~4.5-4.6Ghz on air cooling and keeping it at stock is a shame .

And when I think of Pentium I think of the 90s.

I was gonna go for one in my build but in the U.S.A its WAY over priced.

For about $7 more you can get the unlocked A8 and for $15 or $20 more you can get the unlocked A10.

Why would anyone, in the States, buy this?

To each his/her own. I, personally, dislike the whole "pins in the mobo" concept.

why? AMD also uses for Opterons

I don't care about the names much, but it would probably be more appropriate to call the Trinity Athlons, something like Athlon III, since it's totally different from llano or Propus

yes... when trinity was released I was excited about the 740 and 750k, but it took to long to see any available, and the prices are not as good as I expected... so if you want the cheapest quad core Fm2 CPU, probably the A8 makes more sense at the moment in the USA.

As more of the 750K hits supply lines the price may go down a bit. The old supply vs demand scenario. Less supply, more demand, up the price.

I wish AMD would stop gouging us in the US with overpriced APU's and make this available. If this was available at $65-70, I'd finally have a budget CPU to suggest other than Sandy/Ivy Pentiums.

They have no choice. Once the cat is out of the bag that buying more expensive RAM or Crossfiring a 6670 is poor option, most people would buy the Athlon and use the savings pair it up with a discrete card such as the 7770 rather than buy the A8 and A10 APUs. Greater volume would be sold, but they would be make less dough overall because of the reduced sales of the A8s and A10s.

This CPU is available in Europe, its a cheap ass of the year

The problem is that most people buy AMD in Europe and India while in USA you buy always Intel so why bother because most of sheeps wont notice or just trash it because they dont do the research or blindly follow Intels marketing scheme, same thing with Apple...

Ok, so where are the numbers proving that most Euros and Indians buy AMD?

First thing about researching, is verifying that the propagator is not spreading falsehoods.

Actually my experience in India was that it was very much a Intel country. Intel had formed good relationships with Assemblers with a GID (Genuine Intel Dealer) program.

And OEMs like ACER and their distributors only stock Intel based kits. Most of these Assembler/Distributor will don mutliple hats. One as a assembler another as a distributor/repairer for big OEMs. So ACER sells their OEM machines through them. For ppl who want assembled machines, ACER provides kits that the assembler assembles.

I had bought 2 PCs for my dad in 2002 time frame as well as late 2010 timeframe.

In both times I was only able Intel based PCs (at good prices though).
In 2002 when Athlon was making a mockery of PIV, as well as running cheaper and cooler, the choice I had was a PIV with DDR vs. PIV with SDR both with SiS chipsets. No Athlon units were available..

In 2010 I was offered only Core 2 Duo at the price range. I asked for Phenom II based desktops, but the distributor said Acer had none.

Since that distributor had a good support and service, and my dad comfortable with purchasing from them, I bit the bullet and purchased them.
The distributor said that ACER does not provide them with AMD based kits. He had stopped being the traditional assembler who purchase motherboard and CPU but rather became a KIT assembler that way manage his supply chain far better.

This was the time where in Acer in the US was supplying a lot of AMD based Desktop PCs & laptops.

FYI Here is a link that has info about the 750K. http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-Athlon%20II%20X4%20750K.html

It states that it was introduced in Oct. 2012 at the price point of $81. It looks to me that the listing at Amazon is a case of scalping.
High interest/demand, limited suppliers. If I decide to upgrade to the FM2 platform, I will wait till Newegg is selling it at a reasonable price.

edit: I purchased my Athlon II 651K Black Edition for $92.40 from Amazon a little over a year ago and now it is listed at Amazon for $79.99. For someone who wants to get a cheap quad core without IGP that can O/C easily. There you go. According to the same website, the 651K was introduced first quarter 2012 but I really didn't find it till the end of the year.
For the 750K Black Edition, it will most likely be the same case, wait till there are more sellers listing it and competitive pricing will take over.

edit: Here is a link for the comparison of the 651K BE and the 750K BE http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/57/AMD_Athlon_II_X4_651K_vs_AMD_Athlon_X4_750K.html

Well recently in India AMD got more popular, I read some article or heard in some video that AMD sales got six times bigger thanks to their marketing. I may also read it in this forum.

Yeah, it's a decent entry-level chip for mainstream/gaming computers and AMD can't even drive the supply, clearly, there is demand. Sad, isn't it?

Yeah, it is pretty sad; particularly considering that AMD had pretty much the same problem back when K8 was the hottest thing around. Otherwise (and discounting Intel's "alleged" shenanigans) they could have landed more big OEM deals during the Athlon 64 period.

I also seem to remember Llano demand outstripping supply not very long ago. It sucks to think that a company founded by a guy who famously said that "Real men have fabs." now has to depend entirely on outside facilities to make their products.

Good point. This reminds me of Nokia giving up Symbian in favor of Windows Mobile. These companies appear as if they have lost their backbone. Not enough killing instincts, leadership or both?

Given AMDs cutting back on wafers, paying GloFo hundreds of millions for the privilege, I don't think this is the same supply issue as with the A64. The bottleneck is convincing vendors to actually use the chips in devices people would want to buy. Maybe this year we'll see more than just an endless parade of 15.6 inch Brazos/lowest tier chip notebooks often not even passing on much of the discount to the consumer.
