Just found this from SoYo, which makes me a little unhappy:

My system will not boot when I use all 3 DIMM socket, what's the problem?
The M/B can only support 2 pcs. of PC2100 DDR module. We suggest using DIMM1 and DIMM2 when using PC2100 module. You can use all 3 DIMM slot when using PC1600 DDR DIMM,

ok well, jumped back from Win2k and WinXP, same damn problems...I just can't understand why Win2k is stable as a rock but I have these random freezes in WinXP with the latest BIOS/drivers, even with no extraneous hardware installed...

I remember reading about a program that did in-depth testing of your memory module -- anyone think they could point me in the right direction? I doubt it, but maybe my crucial ram is a bit messed up..

wasssup - I doubt it's a memory problem. Odds are it's a driver problem with one of your add on cards.

I got my memory yesterday and will probably put it together tonight. I'll be using Win2k.

Is XP really a worthwhile move from Win2k?

Good luck

personally, I like WinXP, though Win2k was just as good for my needs (stability)...

see, i'd think it's a conflict with one of my addon cards, but the thing is...the problem occurs even when there's nothing installed, so I dunno...

wassup: I read it somewhere that LinkSys NIC can't be sitting on PCI 2, and 3. I could memorize it wrong. you can check FAQ on soyo.com.tw
if you happen to use Linksys, this might help.

And here is the good news for everybody. I actually called to moan about the onboard video. got denied in the first place. I then left a message to supervisor. he called me this morning and offered me 20$. And I again asked for stepping down to 1600+ since the 1700+ is still not in stock and I couldn't wait to get this baby up. He agreed too.

a few things...i called up outpost about the error in the listing, and the CSR was a real dick..he got all pissed off when I asked to speak to a supervisor.

still no luck with stability in WinXP..i took my netgear nic out (i tried it in every pci slot) and i guess i'll just install some games or something and test it out (the freezes ALWAYS occur when i'm either loading a program or maximizing/minimizing windows)

yea jonnyballs, but didit you read? you can get the P4 1.6 ghz and clock to at least 2.2 ghz that makes it comparable in price, and probably a few more mhz....there's a whole thread somewhere in here about it

<< bigmouth, how much is he giving you off for stepping down to the 1600+? >>

Well, I didn't ask for price adjustment on this one since they already gave me 20$ for lacking of that stupid onboard video. I just don't know how to spend the weekend in front of an empty machine. So I can compensate a little.(is the difference between 1600/1700 big?)

Another thought, they put a 112$ bill on this 1600+ so it gets bigger chance than 1700+ to drop price for me to AMEXPM . hiahiahia

<< huh? there is no on board video on this mobo >>

Yeah, but their description said has. So, all you need to do is to pretend you like the onboard video and was cheated.
Or, saying buy a video card is out of you plan and they should be responsible for that blahblah.....

Well, I should call and complain about the onboard video. Also, I can't get Windows XP or Windows 2k to install. I can get 98 to work decent, and get it all setup, but as soon as I go to upgrade the others it will not work, and just freezes either in the install or when trying to run the product. I'm wondering if I just have a bad board or am I just stupid..I've worked on this way too long.

I've tried installing XP 10+ times, 2k 2-3 times now, and have had to revert back to 98 too many times now. I have pulled out all cards besides the video card, tried swapping the video card, running with things clocked down...to no avail...I think I'm going to be calling outpost to see what they can do about this, and to see if I can get $20 bucks back for them not having on-board video.

Sorry about there being so many posts, I just looked into Microsofts help, and nothing there helped me. Computer will not take XP or 2k, either it's a BIOS setting, or the board is bad...I'm leaning towards the board is bad...although why would it work fine in 98 then.

i've got the same problem...but Win2k seems to work for me. I finally swapped out my radeon ve for a matrox millenium g200 and am running it in Win2k...I guess i'll try the jump to WinXP (for the 10th time) and hope it was my radeon ve..I notice though when the computer boots that a couple of IRQ's are being shared by different peripherals, and even when I disable the serial/parallel ports they still seem to be using IRQ's...odd.

I found this deal and referred my sister to it. Of course, her processor is back-ordered also. I know we have at least 1 documented case of them issuing a 1600+ processor instead of waiting on the 1700+. However, has anyone attempted to go the other way and upgrade to an 1800+? I looked and can't seem to find any hard facts regarding supported speeds, so would the 1800+ be compatible? For $20-$30 bucks or so more, the 1800+ might be an option. Assuming, of course, that they would allow the upgrade.

well, i'm in WinXP, and so far so good --- looks like my Radeon VE was the source of my troubles. i'm multitasking like mad trying to get this POS to crash, and it's still running <knock on wood>

btw, like someone mentioned earlier in this thread, when you call up and talk to a CSR, they won't do crap for you --- tell them you want to talk to a supervisor, and you'll get a call back. the supervisors are pretty cool there, i talked him into giving me $20 credit for the misprint about the videocard -- they may even let you step up for $20-$30 more, who knows (just DON'T rely on the CSR's, some here tend to lie)
