I know, however, the system does not boot at all. only fan runs. no video no beep. I am positive the Ram are fine. Both Ram are cruciall 256 DDR. System stays very quiet whatever I use which Ram or both.

Did anyone install the drivers that came on the CD?

I didn't and everything installed with no problems. I'm kind of wondering if I should.

Is there anything that will improve the performance? I''m hesitant to install anything since it runs
with no problems.

Any thoughts?

bigmouth, odes the keyboard light up? If so try holding down the del key while it powers up. If not, a couple things that you might try. One disconnect and reconnect the ATX power to the motherboard. If that doesn't help you might try removing and installing the CPU again. I found with Soyo in the past that worked for me. I hate Soyo boards in general, I've had bad luck with them. Had two prior boards and both went south on me. This one is working so far but I haven't tried the XP yet. It's still on B/O so I put a 1.4 T-Bird in it and it woks fine so far

After getting past my flash BIOS problem (Outpost sent me a new case/motherboard with no hassle!), I am very pleased with this system. The performance has been awesome especially since I was coming from an AMD K6-400. My only complaint is the loud cooling fans.

I am having an issue with my AG315P AGP video adapter I got from Newegg.com. (I am running Windows 2000 sp2.) When I load a large music file (650mb) in my program Cool Edit 96, my computer reboots without warning or blue screen. Also, it occasionally does it also when moving really large files over my peer-to-peer network.

If I downgrade my video settings from 800x600/32bit True Color @100Hz to 640x480/256 colors, it does not reboot. Also, if I remove the AG315P card and replace it with an old ViRGE/GX card running at 800x600/32bit True Color, it does not reboot. Only when the AG315P is running at higher resolutions do I have problems with the crash/reboot.

I have tried disabling my integrated sound card to no avail. I have also checked out my DDR RAM which checks out okay. I have no other clues. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Also, is there enough new owners of this setup to start a new thread under one of the more appropriate areas?

well guys, mine was on B/O, but they sent everything else just to temp/piss me off i guess. Sooo...
I cancelled the CPU part of the order, paid the extra 20 bucks to get it from newegg retail for 131 and free shipping and it will be here soon...called today and he said outpost stilll didnt know when it was coming in....just a suggestion and BTW i asked if i could upgrade to the 1800+ for extra money but he said no b/c it was 199 for the 1800 and im only payin 112

Same thing as clay82. got mine last weds. and fri. outpost said at least a week for the processor. Soooo I put the 1gig duron from my kids machine in it while I wait for my 1700XP from newegg. No video no beeps 1st. try. checked all conections and got one long and 3 short beeps on the next try(video card problem) reseated the video car and it all seemed to work. when I try to get anything more than 16 colors at 640 x480 out of it I just get a mouse pointer on a black screen. I'm thinking this board is very touchy about video cards/ drivers.

So back to the HotDeal part of this thread...

I sent an email to KMorey at outpost.com concerning my frustration over the fact that the Mobo/Case did not have any front USB ports or the integrated video adapter; which, I told him, I REALLY wanted. I also mentioned that I was somewhat upset that the processor was being shipped separately with no apparent due date in sight. First its, "the end of the week," now its "then end of the month," or "we are not sure at this time," etc... All said and done, he offered me 20$ bucks back for the video/usb mixup; and to send me the 1600+ processor for the same price as the 1700+. I told him that I would rather upgrade than downgrade the package. He agreed to give me the 1800+ boxed processor for 142.00 (about $30.00 more than the 1700+ was being charged as part of the bundle), and said he could ship it out that same day. I applied my $20.00 cashback for the video/usb mixup, and paid a total of 122.00 for the boxed 1800+; and the original 86.00 for the Mobo/Case. Funny part is that the boxed 1800+ CPU sells on their website for 199 itself. So its more or less like getting a free MOBO/Case.

AMD XP 1800+ = 122.00 (for complainers) 142.00 (for anyone else to substite into the original bundle)
SY-K7ADA Motherboard w/ Soyo case = 86.00

208.00 if you already ordered (or 228.00 for new orders)

Which is still a great deal for this combo with the XP 1800+. The processor just arrived at my house today...so no more waiting for this deal to come through for a mere $10; that is, until they run out of the 1800+'s.

To anyone who actually got this case/mobo already. I notice there is a housing for a case fan but NO FAN. Please recommend a fan to get for this pretty little plastic house! I would appreciate it greatly.

I wouldn't add any fan to this case. It's already too noisy. I have switched to Antec sx635. which has 2 more powerful fan than this case and is still quieter.

Scarper, your problem with CoolEdit is software not hardware. There's a patch to fix it. I've seen it before at our local radio station.

yeah, it is loud as hell...I ordered a thermaltake 80mm smart case fan from abilitywholesale.com (i think that was the site), and they sent me a friggin crystal orb instead --- they won't answer my emails and their long distance number is always busy...so, i'll probably just dispute the charges.

the smart case fan would be great for a quiet case, but I think it'll be going at max speed all the time because the case gets pretty hot when it's closed (mine's still open )

Sorry to pop this up to the top, but I figured I'd try and help anybody else that was having the same problems as me (see previous posts). I basically was unable to get any video, only constant beeps.

I tried everything including seating, reseating, re-reseating my video card and memory. I had one 256 DDR memory in slot 1 (and yes, I'm absolutely positive it was in DIMM1 and securely seated).

Anyways, I called up OUTPOST and they said they would gladly send another barebones kit out (sans CPU). It arrived in 2 days and it took me all of an hour to have it up and running. My advice to everybody that is at wit's end trying to figure this thing out, just call and talk to a CSR. BTW, my return shipping on the defective unit will be reimbursed by OUTPOST so I'm out absolutely nothing.

Thanks to everybody that gave me advice. I appreciate the troubleshooting as this was my first build.

PCPowerandcooling sells the quietest fan around, called silencer. Free shipping over $10. Their Silencer power supplies are also very quiet, but pricey.

B) Is this the update you used:

D) Did you 'Load SETUP Defaults' right after the update?

I ask all this because I am planning on setting mine up tonight, and was planning on updating the BIOS before anything else. Please let me know, OR anyone else who has successfully updated this BIOS on the soyo K7ADA.
