Oh, snap, that 2800 is the Barton Core!
I remember about a month ago these were selling for around $35 shipped used. Twas my first processor I bought, I even played oblivion and BF2 on it.

OK, who had these hiding in their closet? I'll have to order a few since I have a few Socket A MBs laying around.
Hmmm, unless damaged by sloppy HSF install/removal, I'd expect the chips to outlive the motherboards. I think I have a good chip in the garage, and two dead boards.
I too still have an old machine that my 5 yr old uses now for web-based educational surfing (PBS, Wordworld, sesame street). Has the Asus A7N8X Deluxe with XP-M 2400+ 1.8ghz CPU running @ 2.23ghz (12 x 186 FSB). You must have the Rev. 1.04 like me -- mine starts to get unstable ~ 188 FSB due to lack of sufficient South Bridge voltage. The Rev 2.0 corrected this problem and could run ~ 230 FSB. I never wanted to bother with the volt-mod for my board though.Originally posted by: Mac
If these were the XP-M Barton's, then I would probably find myself being inexoriably pulled in. In fact, that's what I still run today, an old Asus A7N8X Deluxe with an XP-M 2600 Barton running at 2300MHz. It would probably run faster except the the FSB isn't stable past 185MHz. The mobo is over 5 years old and CPU almost the same. It is still rock solid.

Thanks to all who posted in this thread for the memories! Good times, and a great era for OCing

Why in the world would anyone buy one of these chips today? Some sort of misplaced nostalgia for the "good old days"?
There's certainly no technical criterion in which these chips are "better".
Because you can't stick an Athlon64 in a Socket 462 board.Originally posted by: VirtualLarry
