Which Fry's did u go to?

I could've sworn the Friday ad in the Merc had this combo for $159, not $129.

Did those copper heatsinks come with a good finish or did you need to lap them?????

Bump for great deal!

I want to move to solcal, right next to a frys there.
How is the cost of living there? traffic? air? rent?(single), cost of food(wendy's, mickyd), utilities(cents/kilowatt)?

trikster2,

oh, ramsinks are just ordinary pennies unlap polished with a jewelry's polishing cloth.
I won't try it on a geforce 3, but if you have an older tnt2,geforce,geforce2 and just looking to juice the last ounce of mhz without spending more than $2.50 it might be worth the effort. Those of you who own dremels can do better. This site is pretty good showing you how to do it afrotechmods. Check out the aluminium case mod for pennies.

I just put this system together from Newegg for a buddy. $90 for the Athlon 1800 and $54 for the same mobo= $144. Actually, $159 if you include the Retail HS/F. $129 would have been nice if it's right.

This is a great motherboard, I have two running with a 1gig Duron and a 1.2gig Duron. How is it with the 1800XP?

Went together like a champ. Haven't done much with it yet (put it together this weekend), but everything went smoothly for the most part. The default bus speed was 100, which made the BIOS show the chip as being like 1153, but as soon as I switched it to 133, it showed up as 1800+ XP. Onboard networking and sound work fine.

?!

Damn, I *just* got back from Fry's. The XP1800 was $159... You're saying it rings up as $129? If someone else can confirm this I'll be headed back out the door.....

Yes, the AD says $159, but they've corrected the price in the store and it rings up at $129. It is good through Tuesday 7/16/02.

Yeah..I saw the advertised price on Sunday. It's not $159, it's $129. The best thing about this deal is that some or most of the 1800+ processors they sell are the AGKGA cores. Those cores are as far as I know one of the best ones to overclock with.

NICE!

Just went [back] to Fry's and picked up the 1800+ combo [again] and asked to buy it. The mananger of the department said it was $159 and he had no idea where I pulled the $129 "configuration" from. Then, one of the lowly sales reps came up and corrected him and cheerfully gave it to me for $129, the "new" price.

A few people saw me get this deal and immediately jumped on it, lol.

From Pricewatch.com...
Lowest 1800+ combo: $129 [from the fraudulent companies]
Lowest 1800 chip: $82
Lowest K7S5A mobo: $55

GREAT GREAT DEAL.

Thanks HHPWANG!!!

so far so good with my set-up. i had some major difficulties with figuring out where to plug the power header switch in (blushes in embarrassment) thanks to the crappy manual, but it seems to be working now. fingers crossed!

I'd jump on this deal if it was offered here in So CAL. Guess So Cal Frys are going well. They don't have to offer these good deal. Wish I could price match this dela here but they would not allow it.

ha, I am so lucky. I live in Maryland, but my wife is visiting her cousion in San Jose this week, so I asked her to pick one up And she got one just now, the price is $129 (not shown as $159 as some guy had). The cpu is said to be wrapped in a hard plastic case, is that the case? I thought boxed CPU should come with beautiful boxes, like the one I got from Intel

The new Retail Box Athlon XP's are in a plastic case. Make sure your wife gets a brand new motherboard and cpu (not the kind that has the return stickers). Especially the motherboard! All Fry's seem to have more returned K7S5A Mobo's than new ones.

Actually, I don't think it is because of Northern Cali Fry's are suffering finacially. I could be wrong, but somone in an earlier post mentioned it was because there is some kind of standard of living adjustment.

Standard of living my ass. If anything, it should be MORE expensive in the Bay area since everything else is.

This processor is $90 shipped from TWCS. You can get the MOBO at reputable dealers for about $55 or from Fry's themselves for $59.99 Put em together, and it's about $150, give or take, $129 + tax is about $141, so it's only worth about $9 to get it at Frys NorCal.
