Seems the prices just keep dropping... recently dropped to $79 and now its at $76. Retail is $81

Link

I am not going to use the hs/f that comes with the cpu - would it still be worth it to pay the extra $5 to get the 3 year warranty?

Edit*
Now it is $75 OEM and $80 Retail.

Buy this and the Abit NF7-S that is on sale for $89 and you have a sweet combination for $165.99 Shipped! Not bad at all.

Not trying to crap, but wouldnt the 2600+ combo here be a better choice? Just seems like a better bargain. Unless there's something about the 2500+ that I'm missing. If so, lemme know.

The 2600+ combo would be good if you have a Fry's near you.

What would be a good choice for a inexpensive MOBO to use with the 2500+ if I wasn't interested in overclocking?

Thanks
Ken

It might be depending on the person but I would rather have an Abit NF7-S than anything of ECS...

Yeah I just bought this package from Newegg. I've heard great reviews about the OC'ing ability of the Abit NF7-S and Barton 2500+ combo..so I'm excited to give it a try. I havent heard much about the ECS board...

See...that's what I was looking to know. I assumed there was a reason this would be hot, now I know the deal is in the combo with the NF7-S. Now if anyone would help me out in letting me know what's better about the Abit board. I ask because my brother has an ECS board (from a prior Fry's deal) but we've had no problem with it.

I would get this and either the NF7 or A7N8X,

I have both of these boards and an Barton2500+ in both. Both have 2x512 corsair pc3200 and both are running extremely stable @ 1.7v 200x11 bus for XP 3200+ rating.

I prefer the A7N8X myself.

I'm attracted to the 2500+ because it likely can be overclocked with a 200FSB ("400MHz") = 3200+

Edit: yeah, like they said

It's probably a better deal, but it's not worth the extra effort for me to go to Fry's. In addition to that, I can't endure standing in line next to some smelly geeks who haven't taken a shower in weeks. With Newegg, I can have them shipped right to my door step with the motherboard I want without the extra hassle. Besides, the 2500+ overclock just as well as the 2600+.

if you know the term OEM and retail mean, u probably know that OEM doesn't come with any fan or heatsink as well as no 3 years warranty as retail version

They have ware houses in NJ, TN, and obviously CA still. If people are really into OCing check out the Mobile 2500XP chips. default voltage of 1.25 and are factory unlocked a bit more expensive though. I have seen one @ 2.8Ghz stable.

I was just over @ AMD.com forums. The newegg listing of 1.25V is erroneous. That voltage applies to the small-form factor low voltage series. I think the guy said it is actually 1.45V core. The FSB is 266 but with a flexible mobo and an unlocked CPU, who cares about that minor detail?

Should be back at newegg "any time now" but for the impatient: eWiz.com

Edit: ouch, ewiz jacked the price $11 overnight.
