Has anyone heard if there will be Carrizo mini itx boards coming out, kinda like what Intel is doing with the celeron 1037 and later chips.

BTW what the hell happened to AM1+?
Is dead, no?

Yeah its dead.

And it was a failure too. No upgrade path and the use of a socket vs. going soldered meant that it cost more that it could have.

Lets face it, when people upgrade from kabini (for the very few who buy a computer this low end and then want to upgrade) pretty much any of the higher performance chips require a mobo change. Soldering would have reduced prices and waste, especially for a cost critical segment (passive cooling would have been nice too).

What is your criteria for failure? Also there are plenty of soldiered kabini solutions out there...

Another note, there are (is an?) aftermarket passive cooler for am1

Ultimately there was no point in designing a socket. Desktop Kabini should have been 100% soldered and designed with a passive stock cooler with design aiming for low costs.

Actually it didn't failed... It got pretty decent sells in LATAM. Since they can OC it makes them even better than Bay Trail and even better than Braswell.

AMD and even nVIDIA has a chance to defeat Intel on retarded Atom mode

Who the hell other than a few enthusiasts are overclocking Kabini?

OC is NOT its target market by a long shot.

But is a bonus not so few people will learn. No other chip can OC and becomes decent... and if you try to do on a Bay Trail, it dies fast.

Again. Virtually nobody buying that chip will overclock it. Virtually everybody buying that chip would rather save $10. OC is nice. I agree with that. However, overclocking in the target market does not exist to any large extent and AMD would have been better served for 99.9% of their customers by axing the upgradable socket and simply soldering the chips in with a stock passive heatsink.

Also note that overclocking has no bearing on soldered vs. socket. A soldered chip could easily be overclockable.

It's in limbo. They still sell it, and for all I know they're still cranking out 28nm Kabinis for it. It would be nice to see Carrizo-L in there but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

There should be Carrizo boards as per AMD back when it became known that Carrizo would not be socketed. I would hope they are mITX as such a power efficiency focused chip would be out of place on anything larger.

I would love to see some enthusiast-oriented Carrizo BGA boards sold to the public. I would also like to see AMD put stuff like that in OEM systems as a step up from their Jaguar-based OEM machines (AiOs etc). Board partners and OEMs may be a bit skittish about providing products like that.

I think AMD should also try to get out a 15 w chip with focus on cpu, hardware support for h265 and limited gpu.could be a good braswell competitor, but probably their architecture it's just not able to do that

It is a bit funny becuase Intel did the opposite with braswell, with my st of the focus on the gpu.

I want to see Carrizo on AM1... they would DOA any Braswell right now in most aspects since Intel went retarded in this moment...

Also Bristol Ridge seems to be Carrizo and it should've made on 20 nm

And Braswell is quite a fail indeed

Braswell in 2015 has the same performance both in CPU and iGPU as AMDs 2014 cat cores.
Yet it will sell by the millions and people will say this is because its the best SOC in the market

If they used the same power as cat cores you ahd a point, but they dont.

From what I read -- AM1 is a strong seller for AMD, just not in the USA. They did really well with it overseas in India, Latin America and China.

Exactly. I dont am not really a fan of what Intel did with Braswell, but it still has similar performance to cat cores and uses less power.

Anyway, not sure how this thread got derailed to calling Braswell a failure, because if Carizzo ends up competing at 15 to 35 watts with Braswell, it is an even bigger failure. Carizzo actually competes with Broadwell U.

Two points:

1). Carrizo is not pin-compatible with AM1. Not even remotely close. They'd have to launch a successor socket to AM1 to bring Carrizo into that space. They MIGHT be able to make Kabini/Carrizo-L pin-compatible with Carrizo and make it work with some UEFI hax0ring, but I see nothing on the roadmaps to indicate that there will be an AM1+ or whatever successor socket that would be necessary to fulfill the role of successor to AM1.

Interesting, and it makes some sense. Maybe they could build on that success with a successor socket as I mentioned above . . .

Carrizo would do all of that, quite competently. Whether or not you'd like the CPU performance of a 15W Carrizo is subjective, but I wager it'd be a darn sight better than Kabini or any Atom core at that TDP.
