most likely the 15W stays on base clocks or lower

i really like the toshiba radius, again we're one hair close to the perfect product but still no decent screen and no full 35W cpu in smallish chassis.
Same old same old, it must be done on purpose to frustrate the consumers lol

will definitely look for a review of that puppy tho, could be decent if running at 25W (one could dream)

Does the 15W go to 3.4Ghz?

Yes if it has the thermal margin, it may only reach 3.4GHz for a smaller amount of time at 15W TDP but it should be able to do it if the load of the APU is not that high.

The main problem i have at 15W TDP is the limitation of the Ram to only work at 1600MHz. At 35W TDP the RAM can operate at 2133MHz and thus will increase the iGPU performance substantially, without even accumulating the performance of the higher TDP.

The thing is that OEMs install a dGPU with the 35W TDP designs, when they could only install a dual 2133MHz ram modules and have better performance, cheaper BOM, lower weight and lower power consumption than those 64bit ddr-3 dGPUs.

Really this is a problem AMD should take care off.

What would be truly interesting is if of these assh...oems built a carrizo ultra slim with 8gb of ddr4. That might create some buzz.

They dont want to upset Intel :whiste:

If the OEMs thought they could make the same or even more money by building AMD-based systems with the characteristics that monstercameron described, then why would they care about "upsetting" Intel?

Quite a few reasons top among them:

* Intel could reduce their advertising contribution for that OEMs products, i.e. no cash/rebate/discount for including "Intel Inside" + Intel audio trademark in their OEM advertising.

* Lower on the list for Intel allocation of products, other OEMs getting the in demand SKUs first and in larger quantities.

* Lose discounts and have rebates lowered or eliminated.

So OEMs would need to be confident AMD could keep delivering to make up for above business changes.

WOW, thanks for the fast reply that was crazy fast. Well will there be any more AM1 Cpu's released or are we stuck with the 5350? I was hoping for a all out ITX upgrade using Carrizo or Carrizo-L.

Carrizo isnt even in the same segment as Carrizo-L or AM1 performance wise.

And if you just want ITX there is plenty of options. Even regular Kaveri chips from AMD as well or pretty much all chips from Intel.

Yeah But I am looking for the 15-35w power limit hence why I am looking forward to Carrizo/Carrizo-L. Anything more demanding in energy use kills me at the end of the month in the electric bill. Besides Carrizo/Carrizo-L is supposed to be faster and stronger but at a lower TDP which is what I need now rather then later. I guess I will just keep my fingers crossed and hope something pops up eventually.

Or just get an Intel T model.

But your power usage depends on task energy consumed. Not by TDP limits. When they idle they all use an absolute minimal amount of power. No matter if its a 15, 35 or 95W CPU. I assume you got an SSD as well to save power.

But I would like to see your application usage, power usage and price calculations. Because I think you are way off.

At 50W 24/7 at 10cents per Kw/h it comes out to what, 3½$ a month?

My 4820K is 130w , 8 x 4gb = 32GB ddr3 1866 1.5v ,xfx r7 260x unsure of tdp,WD 8tb my book HDD ,WD 1TB HDD,SANDISK 64GB SSD,1 Lite-on Blu-ray burner, 1 HD-DVD drive. I never turn my pc off normally but only running this pc for 2-3 weeks and getting my electric bill made me change my mind. it went from about $120 to about $220-$230ish. All I used this PC for so far was to transfer data from 2 4tb HDD's to 1 8TB HDD and I encoded a few dozen movie's via handbrake. Now I am back to running on my 5350 to cut electric bill costs.

Did you disable any power savings?

Also just learn to turn it off when you dont use it.

100$ extra wouldnt even make sense in relation to your 4820K. That means it would have to use something like 1400W 24/7 if you pay ~0.1$ per kw/h.

So much power sounds more like AC or heating.

And if you wish to conserve power. Check your fridge and freezer first.

Yeah... the math on this just doesn't work out. Either Donald Trump provides your electricity or something else was going on to drive up your bill.

Yeah we did have A/C on here and there this last month but it didnt jump up the electric bill like it did when I started using this PC. Its a energy hog and yes power saving features were turned off but like you guys were saying it doesnt add up so now I have to figure out what is eating up all this electricity. Anyways that is the main reason heind me wanting a power efficient cpu mobo combo..

Enable power saving. Just idiotic to disable it.
Then buy a kill'a'watt or whatever its called in the US and start measuring different appliances. Fridge, freezer, AC, PC etc.

Well, the slower CPU takes longer to do the job, so it may not save you much money on the electric bill overall.

With power set to balanced, they all idle at very low power states.

does carrizo's K15 architecture give it an advantage over the newest mullins(a8-7410) in a task like h264 encoding given both are at 15w TDP?

hi fellow monster, It gives it a slight IPC advantage but due to the configuration of the cores -2 int, 1 fpu- some workloads may favour puma+.

I was interested in two things about an AMD laptop: lower price compared to Intel counterpart and h.265 support.
Since Intel has h.265 with skylake and AMD's CPUs are set at 15W I honestly don't see the point.

If all you wanted was lower price and watching movies, how does the 15W TDP affect you?
