Carrizo doesn't need to be faster than Skylake. It needs to be faster - significantly faster - at its target TDP point than mobile Kaveri, and it is. That it ever beats Broadwell in CPU tasks is a beautiful thing (less-surprising when it wins in integrated graphics performance, i5-5200U is not an iGPU powerhouse). All of the hyperbole and snarking aside, did any of you expect AMD to beat Intel in CPU performance within any power envelope? I didn't. Putting out something that can beat Atom, Haswell, and Broadwell in the 15-25W range is something that is an amazing accomplishment for AMD, especially given the process discrepancies.
And it needs to find its way into better laptop configurations than many of the ones we're seeing now. It could beat Skylake and still be a stinker if the OEMs relegate it to the b team. Still a step up from the mostly non-existent mobile Kaveri, but . . .
Also, I move we close this thread and go to the Carrizo general thread (is there one yet) since it is now in products and selling in at least a few cases.
